Guest guest
, I, too, take anti seizure medicine. I take 1,500 mg of Depakote a day. I have always been afraid to take anything over the counter or any alcohol. At Thanksgiving I had a glass of wine and all went OK and this weekend I have been taking over the counter sinus medicines without my doctor knowing. My GP is afraid to let me take anything over the counter and always has to do his checking on prescriptions. I would NEVER take anything and go drive or be left alone. Sorry I can't give you any direct answers. Just be careful and have safe New Year. Blessings, PS Sparkling cherry juice taste great. I have been having hard time finding it this year. dilantin and alcohol I'm still taking dilantin (anti seizure med) for the brain op I had inaug. Dr says 3 more months. The bottle ays no alcohol, my dr said aglass of wine would be ok. So I;'ve had a few in the past week whoo hoo,it makesme tired. With NYE tomorrow night (going to a party) want toknow if any one had any experiences with the med and alcohol, why doesthe bottle say to not drink?????? Guest guest
The basic stock answer is.. Alcohol is a drug, a depressant actually, it also has a tendency to magnify effects or drugs.. So I'm not a pharmacist, but .. Say you take 100mg of Dilantin, drink a couple of bottles of beer.. This causes the chemical equivalent of 500mg of Dilantin. Not good (Phenytoin is what Dilantin is.. Dilantin's Generic name is Sodium Phenytoin) There are many drugs which may increase or decrease phenytoin levels or which phenytoin may affect. Serum level determinations for phenytoin are especially helpful when possible drug interactions are suspected. The most commonly occurring drug interactions are listed. * Drugs which may increase phenytoin serum levels include: acute alcohol intake, amiodarone, chloramphenicol, chlordiazepoxide, diazepam, dicumarol, disulfiram, estrogens, H2-antagonists, halothane, isoniazid, methylphenidate, phenothiazines, phenylbutazone, salicylates, succinimides, sulfonamides, tolbutamide, trazodone. Guest guest
oh sparkling cherry juice sounds delicious!!! I'll look for it. I also have these alcohol free "kaluah iced coffees" they taste just like kahluah! I will drink these, the caffeine give you a better kick than wine any day, alcohol makes me sooooo tired anymore, but I will have 1 glass of champagne at 12. Thanks sarah & Larry Orr wrote: , I, too, take anti seizure medicine. I take 1,500 mg of Depakote a day. I have always been afraid to take anything over the counter or any alcohol. Guest guest
Because the occurance of a seizure is GREATLY magnified , thats why no drink:( They dont want you to drink on MOAs either and flu meds can intensify theses as well so the likelyhood of a seizure is more common:( In an NF2er, this is pretty common anyways so anything can throw a wrench in the balance:( Take care~~Lowi Re: dilantin and alcohol > The basic stock answer is..
