Confused???

I started having panc. pain this past Monday night. Tuesday I called

Dr. Shermans office and spoke with Anne, his nurse. She told me that I

was having another flare-up of pancreatitis and called in a script of

phenergan and vicodin, and said to go on clear liquids until the

pancreas settled down. I did as she said, until last night. I made the

mistake of eating supper with my family. Within a few hours I was

vomiting and having severe pain. My husband took me to the ER and they

told me that all my blood tests for amylase, lipase, etc were all in

the normal range. I was told that it may be a stomach flu. They went

ahead and gave me an injection of demerol and phenergan and sent me

home. Don't get me wrong..I was very glad I got to come home and very

happy that my blood tests were normal, but I am so confused! This pain

feels exactly how it has been in the past. So why are my tests showing

normal with chronic pancreatitis???

I do remember reading some posts in here about normal blood levels,

but I can't seem to find them. Is it just the flu or is it

pancreatitis? Needless to say...I am sticking to clear liquids today

and I'm continuing the meds as I am still feeling pain and nausea. I

was going to call Dr. Sherman again, but decided not to bother him or

his nurse with this, they have been so good and I know they can only

do so much.

I hope someone can help me understand why my blood levels are normal

with chronic pancreatitis. Or are they abnormal only when the pancreas

flares up and I just have the stomach flu?

I know there are a great deal of people in here who have it a lot

worse than me...I hope each and everyone of you are having better days

you are all in my thoughts and prayers!

Take Care,

Tammy from IL
