Guest guest
I cannot go in pools or hot tubs either. I have DV, but when I go in a pool, my skin feels awfully dry, irritated and sometimes itchy... to a whole different degree than normal. I was worried when I went on vacation that the salt water would bother me, but it was fine. Same with the lakes around here. But pool water can be AWFUL to deal with!! Guest guest
Did you hang around the pool in a wet bathing suit after swimming? It seems more likely that a wet suit against your skin in hot steamy weather would cause the yeast infection than the cholorine. I have always understood that chlorine (bleach) kills yeast, hence the instructions to wash our undies with bleach after a yeast infection. Also, if you have mold (a fungus - like yeast) in your bathroom, it takes bleach to get rid of it. The docs do advise that women prone to yeast not leave their suits on after getting out of the water. Just some thoughts.Dusty -----Original Message-----From: VulvarDisorders [mailto:VulvarDisorders ] On Behalf Of BunnySent: Sunday, July 09, 2006 10:55 PMTo: VulvarDisorders Subject: Clorine and VVS, Yeast Infections Hey Guys,I just wanted to take this oportunity to warn everyone to stay away from clorinated pools. I found out well over 6 years ago that this was a trigger to symptoms and can even trigger yeast infections for me (though usually it just gives me a week of burning stinging from chemical intolerance). I havent been in a pool for over 5 years, but last week we brough my daughter to the city pool for the first time. She had a great time and her and my husband were having so much fun that I gave in and went in with them. A foolish mistake that I am now paying for. I have been mostly pain free for the past 5 years, but I still have to maintain by following all the hygine common sense such as free and clear detergents and such and avoiding irritants. In anycase I was irritated and dry down there for the next two days and by the third day I was getting that all too familiar feeling. Now I have a rip roaring yeast infection. I am sure it will get better with the compounded suppositories that my now retired specialist prescribed me, but yeast infections always take a couple 3 weeks to heal from for me, and of course preventing yeast infections whenever possible is the best course of action to keep my tissue in the good health I have enjoyed the past few years.Anyways I thought this might be a good oportunity to share my experience with the group. Might as well have something good come of my temporary (I hope) stupidity. Bunny__________________________________________________________Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! Guest guest
I agree with not leaving a wet suit on. I have an underground pool in my backyard and I do not seem to have problems unless I sit around in my bathing suit for a long time and also if the water is warmer than normal. Otherwise the pool water does not bother me.

Guest guest
No, Did not hang out long in the swim suit after. I knew it was a bad idea and showered and dried off right away and changed. My allergist is actually the one that told me that the chlorine may have a connection. I always have a reaction to the clorine in my vulva with the vvs, because the chemical is an irritant. but sometimes it causes a yeast infection as well. The allergist told me that the irritation to the skin can set the stage so to speak for yeast to set in if the immune system is low or if other factors are present. My warning was more that Clorine is an irritant and can cause problems for VVS more than to warn it causes a Yeast Infection. Guest guest
I swam in a pool cleaned by an automatic " robot " and it was fine, and in salt water too - I think the chlorine would be another story. --- wrote: > I cannot go in pools or hot tubs either.
