Guest guest
Shirley, I didn't have a port but I know a lot of the ladies have had them. I will keep you in my prayers. Hugs nne Breast Cancer Patients Soul Mates for Lifehttp://www.geocities.com/chucky5741/breastcancerpatients.htmlCheck out my other ornaments atwww.geocities.com/chucky5741/bcornament.htmlLots of info and gifts at:www.cancerclub.comCinDWood Craftshttp://www.cindwoodcrafts.com port removal Just wanted to find out if anyone had any problems with their chestport? I wasn't supposed to see my onc for 2 more weeks, but on SundayI started having pain in the right side of my neck above the caterter(not sure on the spelling) from my chest port as well as a continuousheadache. I seen her on Tuesday. She ordered a dye study to see ifthe port had a problem. I had it today and of course they found outthat the caterter had twisted upward from my chest (where it issupposed to be) into my neck and is starting to wrap around theartery. So it has to be removed immediately (tomorrow morning) andthen they are going to put a pic line in for my next (and last) chemoon the 15th. I'm a little nervous about getting an infection havingthem open me up to remove the port just a week after my last chemotreatment. They did draw blood today to check my levels. As long asthey are good it is set up for 10 am tomorrow. I just hope everythinggoes OK until I finish this last treatment.Shirley
Guest guest
Hi Shirley, I've had my port since Nov. 05 and haven't had any problems. That's scary that it got twisted. I have stitches that attached the port to my chest and the catheter to my neck, so I think I would be aware if it moved. They usually give you light anesthesia to remove it. Hope it goes smoothly and you can get your last treatment in. -
Guest guest
Hi Shirley: I hope everything went well with your port removal. I've had mine in for 2 yrs now and it gets really painful but x-rays show that it's still in place. I guess my body just doesn't like it. Why are you having a pic line put in if you've only got one more chemo infusion left? Pic lines get infected so easily. ~Amber ----- Original Message ----- > Just wanted to find out if anyone had any problems with their chest > port? Guest guest
I am diabetic and only have one good arm for IV's and blood draws. My onc said that the chemo drugs are to hard on the veins (especially for diabetics). that's why the pic line is being put in. My understanding is that they will remove it that day or the next day at the latest. Shirley > > Hi Shirley: > > I hope everything went well with your port removal. Guest guest
Amber, Oh by the way the port removal well. Thanks for asking. The pain in my neck is gone. Just a little soar on my chest, but nothing too bad. They didn't use anestesia, just a local to numb the area and a IV with antibiotics. Me and the doc talked the whole time he was removing it. > > Hi Shirley: > > I hope everything went well with your port removal. Guest guest
Oh my - I thought it would be regular surgery, especially since yours was twisted. I'm glad it went well. I'm trying to keep mine in as long as possible since I have no veins left to use. Wish they would develop saliva tests for everything instead of having to have blood draws! ~Amber > > Oh by the way the port removal well. Thanks for asking. The pain in > my neck is gone. Guest guest
I can certainly attest to chemo being hard on the veins. Mine literally disintegrated from previous chemo I had for colon cancer years back (before they had invented portacaths), so all I have left are tiny " threaders " which are unuseable. That's good they are not leaving the pic line in. The last thing you need is an infection! ~Amber > I am diabetic and only have one good arm for IV's and blood draws.
