Guest guest
I got the same impression that it might be less than positive so I think it is important for everyone to watch. Any info is knowledge - however, if it is inaccurate or one-sided it is up to those who have had the surgery to then deluge 48 Hrs with emails and/or letters. I thought it was interesting when my surgeon said that the hardest people to educate on the pros of WLS were the physicians. I believe that too! But I have lots of friends and family who had seen these shows that concentrate on the negative side and I am ready to do my part to enlighten the masses!!!!! Guest guest
I pretty much had the same reaction to 48 hours. It was encouraging to me. I think it scared my husband a bit. I thought the one woman was a little on the smallish side for such drastic surgery, but that is between her and her doctor. The mother and daughter were amazing. I am only beginning on this journey, and I have a long way to go...but I am on the road. Still frightened by the possible complications, but also frightened by the reality of my weight and its complications. Glad all of you are here to share your experience and hope! Guest guest
I watched it and thought they did a great job of showing that diets don't work! I wish they had done a follow-up on people who had gotten down to " normal " some time after surgery. That thin woman doctor who was so dead set against the surgery probably had never had a weight problem. Doctor or no, no one who has not been morbidly obese can possibly know what it is like, and how frustrating it is to enforce the terrible discipline to lose weight, just to have it all come back plus more after the diet ends. I think one of the reasons that Americans are getting so obese is because they diet all the time and ruin their metabolism and endocrine systems. To cheer me up, I stayed up and watched some of the nne show later last night to see how she is doing since her surgery. It is amazing. Guest guest
What you said is very, very true with one MAJOR EXCEPTION: Dr.Rutledge! If it weren't for him and other dr.s sort of like him(no one can compare to Dr.R) then we morbidly obese people would not have any chance at all at a normal healthy life! It was a good program! Guest guest
Mcjaneygirl, Yes, I did see 48 hours and boy am I glad I was channel surfing at that time. I have an appeal in and the it had came back with a request for a Roux-en-Y procedure. I had requested a " laparoscopic " procedure. If I had not watched that program and realized it wasn't what I had requested, when I woke up after surgery slit down the middle, I probably would have had a coronary! (Smile) Hopefully, a lot of MGB canidates did see it, It was informative.
