Guest guest
Maggie, I have all the same stomach/digestion issues that you do and I'm almost certain that the growing fibroids are the cause of all of it. My doctor even confirmed that they most likely are. Deb
Guest guest
Maggie, I too have fibroids and IBS. Was diagnosed w/IBS about 9 yrs ago and struggled for almost 8 to get it under control. Well last yr I was diagnosed with the fibroids and the IBS seemed to get worse! My main problem was bloating and diarrhea. I have used Metamucil for yrs to help the IBS. Last yr even the Metamucil didn't help much. I finally had a UAE in Nov and lo and behold about 1 month later, my IBS symptoms were almost non-existent! Couldn't believe it. My gyn told me the 2 were not related, but I knew they were. And also the stress of the fibroid situation I am sure added to the IBS. So, I am certain the fibroids and the IBS were related in my case. I still take the metamucil just to feel good. Good luck to you.
Guest guest
Deb, Thank you for your reply. I have tried meds for the digestion issues and they don't work. Food is becoming my enemy! Do you take more or less fiber to reduce your symptoms? Just wondering if my uterus is 15cm now and rearranging things that this problem will only get worse? I appreciate your help - the fibroid bleeding is enough to deal with and now this too??!! Thank you for your thoughts, Maggie Re: Hi, I'm new > Maggie, I have all the same stomach/digestion issues that you do and I'm almost certain that the growing fibroids are the cause of all of it. Guest guest
Maggie: I also have digestion problems; however, I am five weeks post-myo and my digestion problems have NOT gone away. I have been working with a Nutritionist, MD the last few years--although my focus was mainly on " female issues " ; however, after my myo in Jan 2003, I am now focusing on IBS, gastrointestinal, and food allergies. It's as though I have a hyper-allergic digestive system--but, I had this condition for quite some time. My Nutritionist, MD you can manage food allergies--that is eat a certain " rotational " diet that can minimize your reaction to foods you are allergic to. He gave me a list of " recommended " books; however, I honestly haven't taken the time to read through them thoroughly. Some of them include: Winning the War Against Asthma & Allergies (Author: Ellen Cutler), and Winning the War Against Immune Disorders & Allergies (Author: Ellen Cutler). In short, after my myo, I am going to focus on getting my digestive system on track (including IBS, diet, and food allergy management), and not attribute it to fibroids, endo, or female related issues. Guest guest
Maggie, I would HIGHLY recommend anyone who is having indigestion problems, to read Dr. Lee's book " What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause " AND Dr. Fuhrman's " Eat To Live " . I've spent years researching nutrition and the " politics " of proper nutrition. I've been somewhat of a radical when it comes to my views on the environment. Born & raised in Western SD, where " cattle are king " and married a NW Iowa farmer who farms with chemicals and fattens hogs in a confinement. Believe me, it wasn't EASY to quit eating animal foods, but I truly believe they aren't GOOD for us. I quit milk years ago, pop last fall, liquor 3 wks. ago, and everything else that's bad for you, a week ago. My knees worked better after 3 days. My BIG test will be this weekend " on the road " . I haven't " eaten out " since I started the diet. Around here, there aren't too many places to eat that offer a " vegan menu " . Back to the subject: Someone recently said that it felt like their food wasn't being digested. It probably WASN'T!! Good books on that subject are Harvey & Marilyn's Diamond's " Fit For Life I and II " . I'm sure fibroids DO interfere with digestion, but they don't CAUSE it. Just be forwarned that MOST doctors don't have a CLUE about nutrition because they aren't taught it in school. And don't rely on the FDA for your informtion either (there goes the politics thing......). And ANYONE who is on the Atkins diet or the Zone diet PLEEEEEEEEASE read the books I mentioned. Esp. " Eat To Live " . He uses MANY references so it's not just HIS opinion. In fact I've read LOTS of things about the dangers of a high protein diet. Sure it may work, but it's terribly unhealthy to maintain the wait loss. respectfully (and thinner daily.....), oke
Guest guest
, I just wonder how many women diagnosed with IBS, actually have fibroids that are causing the problem. I too have a lot of stomach trouble and I KNOW that it's the fibroids. To bad you doctor, like many, doesn't seem to have a lot of common sense. I took a popular antidepressant once for 5 days and just quit because I hated how it made me fee. The next 12 days were pure withdrawal hell. My doctor STILL thinks that what I was experiencing was stomach flu even after I presented him with tons of info and stories from other victims. Makes you wonder about how smart some doctors are. Guest guest
Yes, diet's very important, but how can you know for sure that fibroids don't cause digestive problems? The bigger my fibroids get, the more trouble I have. Just makes sense. My eating habits haven't changed.
Guest guest
I guess we can't be sure that fibroids don't CAUSE stomach problems. I'm sure they irritate them. Try giving up dairy and ALL meat and see what happens......
Guest guest
> help - the fibroid bleeding is enough to deal with and now this too??!! Fibroids don't bleed - they disrupt the normal menstrual cycle and cause heavy bleeding and clotting. See my post #30871 for an explanation of how and why. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uterinefibroids/message/30871
Guest guest
oke: I'm one of those who complains of indigestion. I'm scheduled for a myo Monday and in addition to those steps of looking out for my health, I am planning to make other healthy changes. I'm not sure, but I think someone else mentioned " Eat to Live " in this group. Someone mentioned it to me because I looked it up on Amazon.com the other day. It's on my book list to purchase and I will be reading it during my recovery. I have now added Dr. Lee's book you mentioned and there's another one " What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause. " I ran across his books before while doing tons of Internet research on fibroids, but got thrown off by the discussion of progesterone creams and reading mixed issues about it's affect on fibroids. Anyway, I've decided to give them another chance and see what's to be said in these books. All information may or may not be helpful, but it's worth a try. Thanks a lot for your input.
