I had a lumpectomy last week. The path report showed two more sites

over and above the original lump. I'm still waiting for the Gene

testing results. The surgeon is not comfortable doing more excision

unless I insist on saving the breast. SO...my mastectomy is scheduled for

July 6th.

I'm numb right now. I don't seem to have any feelings except (I guess)

relief. Waiting for that path report was so hard. Are my feelings

normal. My best friend wonders when I'm going to start breaking down.

Thank you for being here. I've already got a lot of help just by

reading the past posts.

Hi and welcome to the group. Your feeling are normal. Why not ask the

doctor for something to help you get through this. There are a lot of ladies on

either tranquilizewrs or antidepressants. I will keep you in my prayers.

waiting is really difficult, and it never seems to have an end. But eventually

it will.

I am sure the surgeon is trying to do what is best for you. But if you are

feeling like this because of the mastectomy, maybe try to talk to him about the

reconstruction. You won't be doing it now, but you will have something to look

forward to. I have met women who did it and they are very happy with the

results.

We'll be thinking about you

and nne,

Thank you for your encouraging words.

, I have already talked to the surgeon about the reconstruction.

That is in his plans for me and is something to look forward to.

Maybe a size or so smaller would be nice LOL.

I went back to work today. I seems to keep my mine quiet and will

help pass the time until surgery.

Hi ,

I am very happy for you. Whatever the decision, you must feel good about it

and rest your mind. One less thing to worry about!

And time will pass faster than you think!

I will be thinking of you and keep us posted.

Hugs

PS. It took me a while, but I can finally manage to type. The pain in my

fingers is almost gone!

Why did you have pain in your fingers? Is this something I should

expect? I'm asking because I am a dental hygienist and I plan on

going back to work after this is all said and done.

Hi ,

Pain in the fingertips is a possible side effect of Taxotere. But it doesn't

happen to everybody. I begin to feel mine 4-5 days after the chemo and it is

getting better now, 9 days later. It feels like someone hammered the tips of

your fingers... It stopped me from oppening bottles, buttoning and doing things

that use strength.

Now, please remember that I am one of those few percent of people who had a

terrible time with taxanes. I had to change from Taxol to Taxotere because of

the severity of my reactions. But I represent only about 2% of the people

treated. I even got a reaction in my first taxol that they had to stop the drip.

My trachea closed up and I had to be put in oxigen and them heavy

anti-histaminics.

So, I am no example for taxanes, only for the worst case scenario I am afraid.

How many Taxotere cycles are you supposed to have?

And vitamin B is great to help with neuropathies, when they happen.

Plan to go back to your normal activities. Most people do with no problems.

I hope I helped.

Thank you for the answer.

I haven't even finished surgery,yet. I don't know what the future

holds as far as radiation or chemo. I should know all of that probably

Mid July.

I agree the waiting is torture. I decided to go back to work for the

three weeks between the lumpectomy and the mastectomy (the waiting

between surgeries is due to the doctor being on vacation and my choice

to not use a different doctor). This week was the first one back. Very

tiring, but work really kept my mind off of the

up coming surgery. I got so much support from coworkers and friends

this week that I know being back at work was the best thing that I

could have done.
