Another question I have is how much does it cost?

My neph gave me a script for it and he said it would cost about

$100/month. Does this seem reasonable? Because of the cost, I

haven't filled it yet. I'll have to look at the script when I get

home but I remember it was MAX EPA.

Good idea.

I take the Costco Brand, don't know the EPA/DHA breakdown, but it's the only one

they sell.

Given the quantities used in the Mayo study I have added up how many capsules I

Hi Steve,

I know you can get the fish oil at Costco and it is not that expensive. I don't

take it so I can't say exactly how much, but I am sure it is much less than

$100.

Hi and and Group:

We bought a 250 capsule bottle of Fish Oil with Omega 3, at Longs Drugs for

$21.00. I remembered about Costco being cheaper but didn't want to tackle the

crowds. BTW, I'm going to check the price at Costco next time I go but I doubt

very much that it will cost $8.00 in Hawaii. We always pay more for everything.

I'll let you know. We were going to purchase the capsules from Puritan's Pride

online where you buy one bottle and get one free but it came out to approx. the

same amount at Longs without the shipping charge.

Not a huge fan of the Costco crowd either - I cannot tell you how many times I

have almost been hit in their parking lot because people aren't looking. When I

go, I usually get 6 bottles or more so I don't have to go for just that item.

Strange that you should mention almost being hit...although I'm sorry that

happened. My husband was commenting on how poorly planned the parking lot area

is at Costco. If yours is anything like ours, there are no walkways for

pedestrians.

Hi ,

We are keeping warm in Australia! It's more than 30 centigrade, with the

humidity at 90%.

Happy Christmas.

Pete.

My neph gave me a script for it and he said it would cost about

$100/month. Does this seem reasonable? Because of the cost, I

haven't filled it yet. I'll have to look at the script when I get

home but I remember it was MAX EPA.

Hi Kris,

EPA is eicosapentanoic acid and DHA is docosahexanoic acid. Both are types

of fatty acids. To read up on fish oil, let me refer you to our sister site

www.igan.ca. Once there, go to the IgA Nephropathy notebook and there is a good

article that explains if you scroll down that page.

Can you explain what EPA and DHA mean? I'm totally new to the idea of the fish

oil and was just

wondering what they mean. Thanks!!!

calculating # of fish oil capsules to take...

With all tihs talk about fish oil and new members, it seemed a good idea to

ask

everyone out there who takes fish oil about your intake. I don't simply mean

number

of capsules, we all know that each brand varies widely as far as content goes,

but

what are the actual totals for EPA and DHA that are consumed in one day?

Given the quantities used in the Mayo study I have added up how many capsules

I

need of the brand I take. The Mayo study was 1.9g EPA and 1.4g DHA, so with

that in

mind I take six capsules equaling 2.16g EPA and 1.44g DHA. When I was taking

the

Costco brand I had to take 12 capsules a day to reach the Mayo numbers.

Some days I get paranoid that I have been reading the label wrong and

miscalculating

how much I should be taking. I even have husband check my math.

So, with folks talking about taking 12 capsules or 8 or 6, it seemed like a

good idea

for the new comers to hear just how much we all are getting in real numbers of

EPA

and DHA.

peace and keep warm.
