radiation on vestibular schwannoma

I am considering having radiation done on my only hearing side in an attempt to save what I have left. I would welcome any comments or advice on this. I can still hear sounds but unfortunately language is distorted now. This radiation would be six weeks, five days a week. The oncologist said it's such a mild dose that it won't effect the surrounding tissue. This sounds too good to be true. What don't I know here? I had gamma knife done before and that failed, I guess it was worth the try. Is this another useless attempt?
