Yes, but it will take longer. I have a supplement which I use for muscle

spasm in my back. It's not SCD-legal. I was in a panic when I first

started SCD, because my alternative is codeine -- and I didn't want to go

back to that.

I spoke with Elaine, and she agreed that I didn't want to go back to

codeine. So I have my supplement (and no back spasms), but it's taking me

longer to heal than I want to, and I must be scrupulously careful about

not ingesting any other illegals to compensate for the

supplement.

<sigh> I was just reaching the point where MAYBE I could relax some

of that when I was diagnosed with the cancer last year, so I'm back to

being very careful all over again because I don't want to risk any

strains on the system. (I see my oncologist next Friday for another set

of tests. <fingers crossed>)

Hi Holly,

I also take Pentasa. If you have the prescription written for the

active ingredient (mesalamine--sp unsure)--the compounding pharmacy

where I live charged 1/3 of the price. Only problem was explaining to

everyone 'why'. If you go into the pharmacy personally and talk to

the person then your doctor, it was a pleasant surprise to find out it

was so much cheaper also.

Holly,

I have Crohn's and have to take Dilantin which has illegals (sucrose,

lactose, starch-wheat). I didn't have it compounded so have been

getting those illegals throughout my healing process.

I don't know what the impact will be for you, but I was able to

achieve remission after 2-1/2 years on the SCD which included plenty

of screw ups along the way.

So in my experience, it is possible to eventually heal even with those

regular small doses of illegals.

Thanks everyone! That makes me feel better. I was worried that the few

illegals would screw everything up. I'm hoping to drop the Pentasa

eventually, because the Humira injections seem to do much more for me.

I'll also look into getting a mesalimine prescription. I'd like to

switch to sulfasalazine like Elaine recommended, but my dad is highly

allergic to it, so I'm afraid to try it.

Good luck with you doctor's appointment Marilyn!
