I am on remicade and doing pretty good considering. I am mobile and functioning pretty well. My question is this: How long between your knowing you are going to lose a particular finger and it actually happening? For instance, my rt. thumb is pretty useless. The joint is huge and it won't bend much. With the meds, the pain is managed...but really I have written off that thumb in the bigger picture of my life. I am not complaining, it is a fact and that's my life. But when I told my rheumatologist that I thought I was about to lose my middle finger, she looked at me like I was speaking another language. I told her it was getting big and sore and stiff. I thought it would be the next to " go " . Does this make sense to anyone? My rhuemy said with remicade, I wouldn't lose any, but I can tell. It doesn't particularly hurt as bad, but I can tell it is going away from my control. How long until it is useless to me? thanks in advance! Guest guest
I wish I knew the answer. I know from experience that methotrexeate will not stop joint damage. My best hope has been in the use of amoxicillan and azithromycin. Best wishes to you. **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)
Guest guest
I have been wondering the same thing. My rheumy wants me on Enbrel and says I am headed into dangerous territory with the inflammation in my wrists being so bad so long, he says it won't be long before I lose use of both wrists. Don't know what to do and how does he know that for sure? Sue rheumatic Joint Deterioration I feel quite despondent that the thumb on my right hand has lost flexibility, in that, I can't make the 'thumbs up' sign with it and handwriting is more difficult..The joint on my index finger has a bump and the next finger down has two nodules on the knuckle. There is a 'raised ridge swelling on the wrist as well. A number of questions: Should I take methotrexate instead of Minocin to stop this joint damage? Should I increase my dose of minocin? Can deformation and and inflexibility be reversed? Are there specific exercises that I can do for the hand? Hoping you are well I look forward to hearing from you all. Ken.
Guest guest
No, Methotrexate will not restore or stop the deterioration of your joints. Stay on the Minocin. It worked for me. You may need to take other measures such as diet exercises, etc.besides the Minocin. But you must keep in mind that your immune system is not working at it's optimum capacity at present because you are being attacked by microorganisms called micoplasmas. Minocin is an antiinflammatory and an antibiotic that will not suppress the immune system any further. Before you can get better, you will need to work on getting your immune system up and running. Be careful of any steroidal drugs. They will wipe out your immune system and have harsh side effects to boot. The only thing they do is stop your immune system so your body does not respond to the invasion and so the inflammation goes away temporarily, but the disease continues and so does the joint damage.
