Guest guest
Frances welcome to the group. PLEASE try not to let the posts upset you. Everyone is different. I didn't get sick one bit from my chemo. Just a little nausea and there are better drugs out there now to help with that. Not everyone gets the same side effects from chemo. Some get none, some get mild side effects and unfortunately there are some that get fairly bad side effects. I will keep you in my prayers. I had lumpectomy May first after my Mammogram, was not good. The 8th of May found out the bad news. Had more tissue removed from the right breast the 11th plus and my sentinel nodes removed. May 17th found out surrounding tissue was clear but nodes weren't. And of course while all this was going on I was depressed,,,couldn't sleep or eat,,,,was pissed.lol all the usuall things! Most of those things have passed now still pissed cause it had totally messed up my summer.I am a Tennis player I am use to playing ever day, So now I just walk a lot! I had my first Cemo yesterday, So far so good, I am fatigued today and have been experiencing some muscle soreness but no nausea. Don't see how anyone could get nausea anyway.lol They gave me a pill to take before the treatment then medicine was in the drip,,,,plus steroids. Then I took a pill this morning and I will take another in the morning tomarrow. But I guess the first one is the easiest, Good luck with yours!!! Guest guest
Now I think that is really scary to go ahead and have Chemo, just on the basis that it looks like Cancer. My Gosh what if it isn't?? I'm sorry BUT I would insisit on the Biopsy first before putting yourself through Chemo. I just can't believe that this is being done without a FIRM postive that it is Cancer. Looooonnnnngggg story. The docs have been pretty good about scheduling all the tests, appointments, etc. However, I have a complication in that I have a bleeding disorder that requires special monitoring and expensive medicine prior to surgery. Plus, I need to have two biopsies at two different hospitals ON THE SAME DAY (both use the same dose of clotting factor). I need an MRI-guided one for the left and a " regular " on the right with port placement. " They " just couldn't get it all together prior to the first chemo. I asked my surgeon if it was okay to have the biopsy after the first chemo and she said it was okay. THEN the oncologist office called and asked if I wanted to resked the first chemo treatment since I wouldn't have a port yet. I told them I wanted to get the show on the road, so they said I could still do it w/o a port. The right tumor is 8 cm and needs to be shrunk prior to mast. Can't believe all the " fun. Guest guest
I had treatment almost 11 years ago and I do realize that sometimes they are doing things different now. I've seen so many changes in 11 years. I do know that with my sister the radiologist swore that she didn't have cancer and even 5 surgeons wouldn't do a biopsy because they didn't believe she had bc. Finally the 6th did the biopsy and even he was surprised when it was cancer. They then decided to biopsy a place in the other breast that they had been watching for 2 years. If you guessed that it was cancer you are right. I've heard many times of lumpectomies or mastectomies being done after chemo, but it seems strange to me to do one chemo then a biopsy. Could chemo effect the results? I don't know what kind of chemo you will be taking next week or what type of biopsy. Just remember if you have any questions to ask the doctors. That is your right and I think most doctors expect that now. Sharon -Frances Bartels wrote: Quoting Sharon : > I'm wondering about the chemo before biopsy also. Guest guest
=Frances, That is a good story. I had a 4.9 cm tumor, so didn't even have a choice as to the mastectomy as well. Keep us posted. This is a wacky journey, isn't it? --- -Frances Bartels wrote: > Quoting jennifer ruffing : > > > > > I am intrigued by the chemo before biopsy thing. Guest guest
Welcome -Frances, It doesn't work for me, but wait for the biopsy before suffering so much. It is unavoidable all the sufering I know, but maybe it won't be as bad as you think. In anycase, we are here for you, for all of us. wrote a welcome to Betsy (I think) that was wonderful to show what this group is about. Ask everything you want, tell everything you want. I have been doing this and this group has been wonderful for me! I have to thank all the women here for providing this confort to me. Hugs -Frances Bartels wrote: Howdy, I recently joined this group, not that I REALLY WANTED to. I'm sure you know what I mean. I hope to learn lots from the posts here. I admit, last night I read over the posts from the previous two days and nearly passed out. :-( And I haven't even started chemo yet! That's tomorrow. I'm probably stage IIIA, haven't had the biopsy yet; that's scheduled for next week. Trying to get everything scheduled " just right " has turned out to be impossible which is why I am getting my first chemo before the biopsy. The " real surgery " won't be for a few months or so. I'm glad for any info I can get from the group and hope to be able to offer help to those who join after me once I get out of this black tunnel. -Frances PS So much for eating " right " , breastfeeding three kids " forever " , starting menses after 13, having no family history, and being only 44 years old. Guest guest
Very good point. Without a core biopsy there is no way to say what kind of cancer, if cancer at all. And even with the core biopsy things can change after the surgery. Sharon wrote: I'm wondering about the chemo before biopsy also. How do they know it is cancer if they haven't don't a biopsy. Guest guest
I do agree with Vicky here. Chemo is too aggressive and can have long lasting side effects. Nobody should take on a what if basis. Besides, the biopsy will tell what kind of chemo to have. The treatments can vary depending on the grade, the stage of the cancer. JVK105@... wrote: Now I think that is really scary to go ahead and have Chemo, just on the basis that it looks like Cancer. My Gosh what if it isn't?? I'm sorry BUT I would insisit on the Biopsy first before putting yourself through Chemo. I just can't believe that this is being done without a FIRM postive that it is Cancer.
