Hey all,I got my port a cath put in on tuesday... Then on Wednesday I woke up short of breath. Well guess what, in the port a cath procedure they knicked the lung, and I ended up having a chest tube put in on Wednesday and then spent 2 nights in the hospital. I'm home now recouping and the port a cath works fine.HOpeing to get my first dose of chemo on MOnday.Smile,Sandy

What an ordeal, Sandy!

I'm glad you're back home.

I am very glad I got a Port put in, and I think you'll also find it

worth the trouble.

Have you gotten a prescription for EMLA cream? You put it on an hour

before access and it numbs the area. Some people get novacaine, but I

would think that would hurt.

take care,

That happened to me too Sandy back in April. I had it in on a Friday and got up in the morning on Sunday and had trouble breathing and a very heavy feeling in my chest. Took them 2 hours in the ER to figure out what had happened. The surgeon finally came in and put in the chest tube. Something was terribly wrong with the placement of the tube or something because I was immediately in terrible pain. Spent the next 1 1/2 days in the ICU with morphine every few hours. Not a pleasant experience. Good luck with your chemo on Monday.

HEy Carla,

AFter they took the chest tube out, I had immediate

relief. And boy whenever I get pain meds I will

always request an anti nausea med before. I had a

terrible bout of nausea while in the hospital and

compazine was my friend.

I've been home since friday and am feeling much

better.

Hope you are well too. I start chemo MOnday. It's

good to start that process too.
