My boss ( an ND ) used to promote the blood type diets ...then he realized the only one that "worked" was the type O diet ( the closest to scd!) ...he now suggests SCD to all of his IBD patients...

If someone's system is so damaged that they develop IBS, etc., or if they have serious gut damage because of celiac, they can't just follow the BTD.  But who knows about a person who starts eating for his bloodtype as a child...  might it possible for that person to avoid the gut damage in the first place?

And my guess is that many of these people who have celiac, etc., are non-secretors, and wheat is an avoid for all non-secretors.  So if they had avoided wheat for a lifetime, who knows if the BTD could have possibly prevented them from the irreparable damage of their intestines.

A person with a chronic illness is a different issue.  You can't judge their situation by the same standards as others who aren't ill.  The BTD is valid for people who aren't ill.  I can see with my own eyes what happens when my daughters eat their avoids:  tomatoes, corn, dairy.  I can see my young son's clubbed fingers change now that he avoids milk.  I can smell the undigested food in the bathroom from someone who isn't eating properly.  It's only a matter of time before these symptoms turn into something more...a real health issue.

It is ignorance that would state as fact that the BTD doesn't work for anyone but Os.  I think the SCD is an excellent place for someone with gut damage to start.  Why wouldn't it be a great idea... to the give the body a chance to heal?  It makes sense to start there instead of with the BTD.  But, after some healing has taken place, it makes sense to start avoiding things that are not recommended for your bloodtype.  Why wouldn't anyone want to try something that might further their healing?
