The ACE inhibitor you were prescribed is really standard treatment for IgAN. ACE inhibitors have a renal protective measure which is why they are given to those of us diagnosed with IgAN. Your creatinine is elevated, but not too badly. Your GFR is about 50% kidney function. For you, I would say it is most important to keep a close eye on your blood pressure and make sure it does not go up. I stayed at around 50% for about 20 years before I started to decline. The majority of people with IgAN never reach end stage, so the odds are in your favor. Guest guest Posted January 4, 2005 Report Share Posted January 4, 2005 Hi Ken Looks like you're about where I was at the time of my kidney biopsy in 1993 - about 50% of normal kidney function. Your urea (also called BUN) is pretty good where it is, at the high end of the normal range. I never had really good blood pressure control, plus I soon proved to be allergic to ACE inhibitors, and then their close cousin Cozaar, the first of the angiotensin II receptor blockers, didn't come along until late 1995. So, if you keep your blood pressure at under 120/80, maybe you won't end up on dialysis as I did in 2002. Pierre Hi!
