I don't know if this will go through but it's important. And if it

happened to me, it can happen to any one of you.

Over the weekend, I got some very disturbing mail from the owner of

a medical advice list. In the mail, what got to me, was that this

owner knew my home email and yet addressed it as my yahoo mail name.

He also knew my last name. There are only 3 people here who have all

that. And none of them would have ever given it out.

The mail accused me of actions I simply would not take on anyone.

Ever. In order to stalk somebody, you have to want to be physically

near them to either do them harm or just want to get their

attention, to be near them. With this particular person, I can

assure you neither is even in the realm of a possibility.

I then took the email itself, the source from which it came as well

as other emails which have appeared from that same source and took

them all to my sheriff's department. I laid out absolutely

everything. What I didn't know is that most PDs and SOs now have

Internet people who can help sort all kinds of Internet legal

issues. They also have people who can then look at the mail and kind

of sense the person who sent it. I guess I was there maybe 45

minutes. They took everything I had.

I learned from them. This particular place is tracking emails

everytime you tap on, even if it's just for a second or so. And they

are storing them. I don't think that's being made speaker-loud clear

to anybody who goes there, even for a quick read. What the deputies

then wondered about was why somebody would do that. And why they

would work so hard to obtain further emails. In the end, they felt

that participants were not being told the full story and that the

place could be running on any number of motives, everything from

professional to financial gain to using people for any number of for-

gain reasons, including studies.

Their advice to me was this: NEVER go there. Don't read it, don't

sign onto it, do not participate in any way. Not even for one read.

You don't have a clue as to how the emails are being used once they

are in a database or what they're being used for. NEVER use your

home computer to go there. It's just not worth the risk. NEVER reply

back if you're written. That could be construed as acknowledgment.

I came home and changed everything. And then I thought about

something: what about mycobacmary? Should I change that? In the end

I decided not to. The deputies felt I would have no problem posting

here. And besides, you can tell my writing style all the way to the

end even if I used a different yahoo. You can with any one of you! I

did teach English for a year and I could tell anyone of my students

without their papers ever being signed.

The deputies also felt the email was trying to convey a subtle

warning. That's why all the names appeared in it. So then, I

thought: should I just never post again? Is it worth it to even

post, to keep telling what happened to me? And then I thought, yes,

it is. It's important. It could help a lot of you. I just had no

idea I would ever receive this. Especially when I in no way

initiated the mail.

After the meeting, I sat out in my car feeling kind of low and

awful. I'm this sick still and having to do all this crap. Really

low. But sometimes when you're cutting new ground, you have to take

risks.

I had to park several blocks away because of all the traffic. And

with uveitis, I try to always be off the road by 5. A truck was now

completely blocking me. And my dogs were with me. 10 minutes, 15

minutes. It was getting close to 4:30.

So I thought great, now my whole day is f--cked up. And then, out of

a side office came this little guy running like a squirrel. He waved

at me and smiled. And I waved back and then, instead of jumping in

the front like a good little truck driver, he ran to the BACK of the

truck. So I thought, great, more delays. And then -- no lie -- he

flunk open the back doors.

And there in front of me were hundreds..........of roses. All

colors, all sizes, all everything. More than I had ever seen in one

place in my life. It was a refrigerated truck. And he pulled one out

from the back bucket and said " here, I'm sorry. " He got in the truck

and pulled off. I looked at it, smiled and thought........the legend

continues! St. T is still with me.

So am I going to quit posting here? No, not unless you truly kick my

butt to the gate. Am I going to quit gazing at some medical advice

list? Yes. Absolutely. Never again. And based on what the sheriff's

department told me, I would advise the same for you. And if you've

even been to some of these lists in the past, I also suggest you do

as I did: change your home email. If somebody's tracking it, that

way they have nothing to gain from it. A yahoomail is a throwaway

thing. A home mail is a different thing.

So that's what happened. I guess what I'm saying is be careful. And,

of course, always watch out for roses.

Please bare with me, I'm tech challenged. Who are " they " and where

is " there " Will they come to me or I go to them. I get so

confused. I'm still intimated by computers. Rafting down the

Deschutes, crashing, going to ER, laid up for weeks --- no problem,

would do it again in a heartbeat, but computer talk is oh so scary.

I don't understand. Glenda
