Guest guest
Hi Emese and other female crewbies, I had used birth control pills for MANY years. Not for just birth control but to help with female problems. After the birth of our second child in '97, I did not go back on it. We wanted to have a couple more angels. But nothing seemed to happen (baby wise that is). Then last year when I was diagnosed, I immediately went to the doctor to be put back on it. The way luck would have it, I would end up pregnant before surgery. As soon as my OB/GYN found out I have NF2, he refused to write me a prescription for it. It was kinda neat he knew of NF2. So I begged for Depro Vera. Depro Vera is that pure progestrone shot. He said not until he calls some drug company and find out if it would be OK. Well, it turned out to be a no go. From what I have read and heard, estrogen doesn't seem to be the bad guy but I read some where that progestrone does make the menningiomas grow. I thought that was interesting as I was put on progesterone suppositories to keep me from miscarrying my daughters and I had that ugly meningioma and I'm the only sister with meningioma problems. I'm interested to hear what others have heard and read. Many blessings,
Guest guest
i was on Ortho/Novum for YEARS, thats a mix of progesterone and estrogen:( I really think that it worsens the NF to be on any female hormones:( I have never seen this link with male hormones like testosterone?? In America female hormones are used in milk production to keep the cows in continuous lactation; there are a lottttttt of sources out there. Im not sure HRT would be a great idea for NFers either:(~~Lowi who would like to hear more about hormones affecting tumor growth. Guest guest
Hi Lowi-- Dr. Mia MacCollin and I have had a few dicussions about HRT and BC etc... she always says the same thing, " There is no evidence that hormones affect NF2. blah blah " This is bull. I have seen it happen to many women (ie NF2 goes besirk/makes its first appearence at puberty, pregancy and/or menopause)this is too much of a " cooincidence " for me! Funny note is that back in 1987 when I was first diagnosed, Dr. Martuza told me not to take BC pills! Guest guest
My Cousin who became pregnant had a very small AN. About 1 month before the pregnancy she had an MRI. The tumor was very small. 10 months later the tumor that was about 2 MM in size had grown to 3CM. That is not saying that the hormones of pregnancy caused the growth of the tumor. but the facts say otherwise.
