Guest guest
In purchasing spices, the only way to go is to check all labels every time. As a general rule, buying individual spices is usually safe, as the illegals are usually put into mixtures or blends. Flavoring extracts need to be carefully checked as many contain an illegal or two. I have bought spices from Penzeys for years, long before I started SCD, but I've continued to find legal spices even afer starting SCD. Most of their products are legal, but I always check the ingredient list before purchase. Their individual spices are always fine; their mixtures and extracts can be off-limits though. I make my own mixtures when I need to. As to teas, most herbal teas are off-limits while on SCD. They contain high levels of polysaccharides. The only teas permitted on SCD are black and green teas (I think white teas are also OK). We can also make a tea of ginger or mint, as Elaine felt these were tolerated by most people (I'm not one of them...). Always make the tea weak. Kim M. I've run across minced onion, granulated garlic, curry, chili powder, ginger. I noticed someone mentioned a company that sells spices but mentioned they are not all SCD compliant. How does one make chili powder or powdered ginger? > > Also, any ideas of herb teas that don't have illegal ingredients? Guest guest
I thought peppermint tea is supposed to be fine, according to the BTVC book. Is this not true?

Guest guest
Yes, peppermint and other mint teas are allowed on SCD, along with ginger. And black tea and green tea. And remember to make the teas weak. Just check the packaging if you purchase your teas, especially the mint and ginger teas. Make sure nothing illegal has been included. Kim M.
