Guest guest
I was just wondering what other people do to control flares on this diet. Also, how long do they usually last on this diet? My parents are concerned when I get a flare and we need to decide how long to let a flare go on before going off the diet or try meds. What successes have you had for treating a flare naturally? Just some concerns I have going into the diet. Alyssa

I can't think of any reason you would need to go off the diet because of a flare -- but you might need meds to help you over a hump. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

I’ve done the same; I have Crohn’s; I’m very drug sensitive and have gotten infections easily. If a person is on Humira (or Remicade or Cimzia – similar drugs) she or he can have a hard time fighting infections, bacterial, viral or fungal. Some people haven’t won that fight. That’s what made me say a definite no to those drugs. I would second Mara’s comment about LDN being “the most helpful drug I’ve taken – hands down.†I’m in early days on LDN, but within the first week it gave me a tremendous energy boost which has already changed my life, and has – along with the diet – helped to give me pretty normal bowel movements (which I hadn’t had in years). It will, over time, be a key in healing my gut, again, along with the diet. LDN regulates your immune system by blocking your opioid receptors during the night for a few hours, which in turn forces your body to produce more endorphins; anybody who has an autoimmune disease like an IBD (and many other conditions) has a wacked out immune system (some of us more than others!), and doesn’t produce enough endorphins. Endorphins don’t just make you feel good; it’s now known they play a major role in immune system health. As I’ve said before here, some people do very well on just the SCD, and some of us need something more. For a lot of people that something is LDN. The diet and LDN work very well in tandem. n Crohn’s for 30 years, asthma, arthritis, mitochondrial dysfunction
Guest guest
I have tried to get on LDN a couple of time and after ten or so days (out of the two times I used it), while trying to taper off Prednisone, a flare would start to come back. Not sure if coincidence or not. Is there a potential for a flare on LDN given that some immune systems have different wiring? Some of you talk of a nice feeling that come form the endorphin increase I think? I have never experienced that for instance. I realize that the taper off Prednisone alohne can induce a flare, just curious if others have had a similar experience.

Guest guest
Hi , I did. I flared getting off the Pred while on LDN it was just mild in comparison. I also had DHEA levels checked and supplemented with that to help ease my adrenals off Prednisone. From the get go I experienced wacky dreams on LDN so I knew -something- was happening. I did not get the true effects of LDN until a while I was off Pred. Bummer. Jodi
Guest guest
Yes, I can tell that it is, gradually; and my asthma. I’m not on a prescription drug for the arthritis; I’m taking glucosamine/condroitin/MSM, extra MSM and curcumin (turmeric) because it’s a good natural anti-inflammatory. But I’ve been taking less of all that now with no ill effect. And fewer hits on my asthma inhaler. n  From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of Shirley Ann Sent: Tuesday, March 31, 2009 4:45 PM To: BTVC-SCD Subject: Re: Flare ups questions n, Has LDN helped with your arthritis?
