I drink glasses of E-Lyte until my low-electrolyte symptoms ease, or my heart rate starts increasing too much (enough minerals!) I remember from my last colonoscopy, I had a glass of E-Lyte two or three times during the intense clean-out period, several times alternating E-Lyte with the Fleet phospho-soda (this was several years ago).

Then I had a glass or two of E-Lyte when I got home from the colonoscopy, and then another glassful a few hours later, then another the next day. The 48 hours after a colonoscopy are the most difficult for me, even worse then the prep., and I found I needed to boost my electrolytes 3 or 4 times during this period.

Remember that I dilute my E-Lyte about 4 times more than recommended, just to get it past my stomach. So it is a weak solution. That makes a difference in the volume of E-Lyte I actually consumed.

I'm a lot worse now than I was then, in terms of electrolyte crashes, so I'd probably need to double the amount of E-Lyte I'd need just to keep my body functioning. It can be an individual thing. If you start feeling really shaky and disoriented, then have a glass of E-Lyte.

Oh, and also remember that fruit juices and sweet drinks can impair the body's ability to absorb electrolytes, so if possible, wait about 30 minutes after a glass of E-Lyte before drinking fruit juices or anything sweet.

Thanks Kim M,

For the tips.

Since the Pancreatitis attack skipping meals is not my friend (I thought it was

an issue before- boy did I not know how painful it can be) so when I had my

Small Bowel series and needed to skip breakfast it was beyond challenging on the

Upper GI level.

I wonder if this gets triggered at all during the clean out for a colonoscopy?
