Guest guest
Jodi I to have trouble taking the preps. What I did was, I only had liquids for 3 days before the test. broth, jello things like that. then on the day before the test I took one decolax, only one and I was clean for the test. I have done this 3 different times with no complaints. I hope this helps you.
Guest guest
Jodi, Better to ask questions and be armed with information than caught by surprise. Each 4-mg ZOFRAN ODT Orally Disintegrating Tablet for oral administration contains 4 mg ondansetron base. Each 8-mg ZOFRAN ODT Orally Disintegrating Tablet for oral administration contains 8 mg ondansetron base. Each ZOFRAN ODT Tablet also contains the inactive ingredients aspartame, gelatin, mannitol, methylparaben sodium, propylparaben sodium, and strawberry flavor. ZOFRAN ODT Tablets are a freeze-dried, orally administered formulation of ondansetron which rapidly disintegrates on the tongue and does not require water to aid dissolution or swallowing. The problems I see in this are the aspartame, mannitol, and strawberry flavor. Since aspartame sodas are allowed once a week, you MAY be OK with that. You'll have to decide for yourself how you may do with the mannitol and the strawberry flavor. I rather doubt you can get this stuff compounded. But in making your decision, keep in mind Elaine's injunction that if you need a medication, you should take it, even if it contains a small amount of illegals. The GI whom I saw (and I have heard this from a couple other sources) said that the Osmoprep, although much more pleasant to use than the !@#$#@! liquids, does not do as good a job at the clean-out, and as a consequence, patients have to repeat the clean-out! (Gah... one person I know did the clean-out three times over the course of a week, with only clear liquids in between, and the doc STILL said he wasn't adequately cleaned out! <shudder>) I do know that I have spoken with people who were instructed to drink the whole four liters of liquid (8 ounces every ten minutes) in one go round, said they were running clear, but then the doc said they weren't adequately cleaned out. For my procedure, I drank two liters of the liquid between 7-9 pm, and then squirted until running clear. Then, between 3-5 am, I drank the other 2 liters, and to my amazement, all was dark brown again, at the beginning. I again squirted until clear. (This was for a 7:30 am procedure.) My thoughts as to why this happened is that the first clean-out DOES clean the lower bowel, but then there's still stuff (including digestive juices) which continue to dump into the lower tract and can obscure things (even though you'd think the first clean-out would wash them down, too), so the second clean-out gets rid of the rest. The doc said my clean-out was good. For me, the most traumatic part of the clean-out was two fold: first, the fact that they denied me the meds I use for relieving muscle spasm in my back, and I was in severe pain by the time I got there for the procedure. Second, after an eight year battle to get and keep control of my guts, to be voluntarily drinking something which induces violent diarrhea. The actual procedure wasn't bad, although I admit that I came home, ate something light, and then pulled my bipap mask on and slept for about six hours! Guest guest
Hi Marilyn, > Better to ask questions and be armed with information than caught by surprise. Totally! Thank you for understanding me.. > The problems I see in this are the aspartame, > mannitol, and strawberry flavor. Since aspartame > sodas are allowed once a week, you MAY be OK with that. Ok, good to know this. Thank you for looking into it. The whole thing gives me anxiety. > You'll have to decide for yourself how you may do > with the mannitol and the strawberry flavor. I > rather doubt you can get this stuff compounded. > But in making your decision, keep in mind > Elaine's injunction that if you need a > medication, you should take it, even if it contains a small amount of illegals. He can write a script for regular zofram or Reglan but he said it won't be fast acting and pre-medicating might not be the best way to go as in my opinion it can make things worse in my experience when it comes to trying to help nausea. They use anti-anxiety meds for nausea and that can be helpful on the pre-medicating level but for me not sure I would want to pop the zofram or reglan.. Anyway- I will have to just wait and see how desperate I get. But, I need to think positively. As some of my reactions and stamina have really changed being on the SCD so maybe this will just be another one of those things? I hope I will be pleasantly surprised. > The GI whom I saw (and I have heard this from a > couple other sources) said that the Osmoprep, > although much more pleasant to use than the > !@#$#@! liquids, does not do as good a job at the > clean-out, and as a consequence, patients have to > repeat the clean-out! (Gah... one person I know > did the clean-out three times over the course of > a week, with only clear liquids in between, and > the doc STILL said he wasn't adequately cleaned out! <shudder>) OMG!!! what a nightmare. No I need to be adequately cleaned out and put this behind me. Ironically, I have a pretty slow transit time when it comes to these tests so I think clean outs for me can be challenging. > I do know that I have spoken with people who were > instructed to drink the whole four liters of > liquid (8 ounces every ten minutes) in one go > round, said they were running clear, but then the > doc said they weren't adequately cleaned out. My procedure is at 10:45am they wanted to give me an afternoon appt- but not eating that long would not be a pretty thing. Not sure if I would have an appetite after the clean-out still- I cannot skip meals. Do you think I can drink 1 liter at a time every couple of hours? > My thoughts as to why this happened is that the > first clean-out DOES clean the lower bowel, but > then there's still stuff (including digestive > juices) which continue to dump into the lower > tract and can obscure things (even though you'd > think the first clean-out would wash them down, > too), so the second clean-out gets rid of the > rest. The doc said my clean-out was good. Interesting how the body works. Good hypothesis. > For me, the most traumatic part of the clean-out > was two fold: first, the fact that they denied me > the meds I use for relieving muscle spasm in my > back, and I was in severe pain by the time I got > there for the procedure. The procedure is actually on Monday April 6th. I had said April 2nd but that was a mistake because the secretary wrote the wrong date down and my hubby is taking monday off to be with me and help me over the weekend. My mom is coming Monday afternoon to help me during the week. I know I keep saying this but thanks so much for all of your help- it's is beyond invaluable.
