Do they give you anything to let you stay awake but it makes you forget the ercp? Not being out for it is terrible. I am so sorry you had to go thru that. I can only say it is possible to do it either way and it too as all things will pass sooner or later. I wouldn't want any more either. The first time, they told me I'd be awake, but wouldn't remember anything. Well, if I was awake, they were right - I didn't remember a thing. Usually, the last thing I remember is that thing being placed in my mouth that you bite down on, you know, to keep you from biting the tube? The the anethesiologist usually starts counting and boom ... I'm out. Guest guest Posted March 3, 2001 Report Share Posted March 3, 2001 I have a cousin who is a doctor that says my doctor is barbaric for not putting me under she had both ends scoped recently and she was put out for it. When I have had the same thing done either end I am not put out but if there is ever another time I will insist. Unfortunately when I go to the hospital I always end up with the same gastro specialist and if I am just there for a pancreas attack he is very good about admitting me so you hate to make too many waves. Ercp's scare me to death anyways, and just the thought gives me the willies!! <shutter, shutter> But, I too woke up in the middle of the last one Dr. Lehman did last Jan. IT WAS AWFUL!! If, and like you - I doubt this will ever happen, I have to have another one done, I'm gonna tell them, make sure I'm out, and STAY out. I've always had what they call " twilight sleep " where you're not really asleep but you don't remember anything after the procedure. I can honestly say I don't ever remember anything and if I did, I would definitely insist that the doctor give me enough medication to put me out with the next procedure. I wonder if your doctor would go through that without being put out! I hope the next time you have to have it done, you have a much better experience. Evidently, mine are so small they can't even get a stent in (they tried and the smallest wouldn't even go in. I figure the documentation on that must be pretty interesting because no GI since has ever even suggested another stent to me). PATRICIA > Well, I know they give it to me because I get hysterical otherwise. They can't even get close to me with the tube if I'm not deeply under. Having woken up once during it, I've gotten a huge phobia about them. They can't even let me see the tube before hand or I start to wig out. So, sleepy time for me.
