I believe you have the right to refuse " treatment " ..., therefore, ladies,

stand up for your rights when stupid people come around!!!

Not only did I not allow the injections they wanted to give me, (after the

spinal fusion), they also wanted blood every day 2X a day... However, I was

not going to get out of there until 14 days passed ... no matter what! I did

let them do blood test every other day! If I thought I was feeling bad, I

let then do it once a day... My veins collapsed and they had to put the iv

on different places ... my IV was changed every day or more, then this woman

comes to take my blood pressure on the arms with the collapsed veins... I

almost hit her! Told her to go away!

In others words, I am ready for NASTY!

okay...I feel much better today, so I guess I can give

more details for you all! LOL >>

, I'm sorry that the floor nurses weren't all supportive. How

terrific that Neal stood up for you and stayed vigilant for your welfare.

What a man! I am just amazed that you're home and ready to deal with your

" new " tummy. Amazed because here is yet another person who's made the

decision and she's home making her way through the first few post-op weeks.

You're a pioneer! I can't remember which part of the booklet from Dr. R

speaks to the juice choices he recommends for the first six to eight

week...but I do remember reading it. Curl up and take a look in the table of

contents. I know that I've read it over and over. You're going to be more

and more comfortable and good-to-go as the days pass. We're all here for

you! Give that gorgeous husband of yours a great big hug and a THANK YOU for

the way that he's taking such excellent care of you. Who says our men cease

to be our knights in shining armor just because the honeymoon phase is over?

If we give our men the opportunity, they will always be our Prince and

vanquish the dragons, demons and evil in our world. Yeah, I know, when

they're in the football/basketball/hockey mode with the TV, it doesn't seem

possible...tee hee...but ladies, our men are ready to act on our behalf

anytime we let them know that we need them. C...you have really

brightened my day. Thanks for the new information. I'll be on the watch for

the crabby RN on overnights. Should I keep a broom from the hospital

porter's closet next to my bed in case she wants to go out for a cigarette?

Keep on getting stronger, ! Dee in MI.

Does this NASTY reside on the fifth floor as an overnight RN? Does this

NASTY have a particular color of hair and hair style? Should all of us

pre-ops be on the lookout for NASTY? Yikes! My Prince won't be coming with

me to defend me; should I bring my magic wand and turn NASTY into a toad?

Gang, I'm one of the first to jump up and intervene on the behalf of others

when I suspect mistreatment is/has occurring/occurred. I know that I've been

poking fun at a lot of things on this list over time. Please, as we support

one another and encourage one another, let's also remember that others have

crosses to bear that would likely cause many of us to fall to our knees under

the weight of them. I stand here confessing my own sin of poking fun at

those who are unthinkingly difficult to deal with and sometimes cruel in

their treatment of us. I'm not sure that it was Bonhoffer, but it was

someone like him who had written of his experiences while in a concentration

camp. The little bit that I remember went like this: if we could see into

the hearts of those on whom we wish ill or retribution for their treatment of

us, we would find there more pain and anguish than we could ever heap upon

them for their mistreatment of us. (Sometimes, we come upon people in our

lives who are so distraught within their own souls that we miss our chance to

minister God's peace to them because they are not very lovable at the moments

we have with them. Bonhoffer would have us remember them to God's care and

love as we suffer from their unkind or unwise treatment of us. I know that

is the ideal; I can't always remember to LIVE that ideal. Let's say a

prayer for the fifth floor nursing staff and their support people; let's

pray that the pain and anguish in their hearts and souls can be eased by our

presence as we have only two or three days to witness to them. We may be the

only bible someone on the fifth floor ever reads.) God's peace to you all.

Folks! I think..... we all need to talk to Dr R about the nursing staff.

This is NOT the first time we have been mistreated. This has to stop!

Surgery is nerve racking enough without having some Bitch make it worse!! I

hope you plan to report this woman!!!

I am really concerned about the mean nurse!!!! What is her name. She must

be talked to and know what is expected. Also I want to know if you

automatically get a private room or not?? Do you have to request it and pay

more for it???? in Mo

Dee I agree with all that you are saying. But a nurse that is not doing her

job in the spirit that it should be done, should be reprimanded. People in

the hospital for surgery need to be treated with kindness and understanding.

If this nurse is adding to the insecurity of patients then she needs to be

talked to by her supervisor. But yes I will pray for her as I am sure her

job is not an easy one. Nursing takes a special kind of person. My mother

was a nurse and a good one. She would come home from work extremely tired

sometimes, so I know how hard they work. I've heard the stories. But they

must not take their frustrations out on the patients.

Hey all,

From what I have heard in the past, didn't Dr R train some of these people??

Or was that when he was at Chapel Hill? I cannot believe that he would allow

that sort of treatment when in the long run it effects your outcome. I am

guessing that needed a larger bore needle due to meds and

anesthesia being used and the other nurse thought it was just for saline, I

am guessing. Now, please do not take this this the wrong way but many of

these guys are underpayed and overworked and I hope that we can overlook a

bad day once and awhile. Maybe I am a bit laizze faire about surgery but I

would rather someone be overly cautious than under, wouldn't you???:) PS

this is NOT meant to start a row!:) PAige

Well, that is something more we pre-op hopefulls have to worry about!! Is

this nurse one of those " babydoll " women who judge you by your body size, or

just some old biddy who has to be in control of all situations and doesn't

understand people like us who NEED to have this surgery? I have been

mistreated my entire life by people who think they are better than I am

because they are thin and I am fat. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I really hope the

hospital would not assign someone like this to take care of us! I expect to

be treated with kindness and understanding while I am waiting to have

surgery. RESPECT is something that we all deserve. Shouldn't these people

be trained in understanding how we all feel about ourselves to begin with?

The worst thing she could do is exactly what she did. I agree with

, someone from the hospital should have a talk with her. I don't

want her as my nurse!

I just wanted you to know (not trying to be ugly) that

it was not only the Iv situation. This woman was

EXTREMELY RUDE to me and my husband and my roomy!!! My

roomate WARNED me about her before she even walked in!

So...I don't think this was an instance of a once in

a while BAD day. Sorry...I just don't appreciate

having myself and my husband and OTHERS being talked

to like children. She was not professional at all.

The IV was NOT supposed to be there! NONE!!! NOT

ONE!!! So...she was WRONG! Sorry...I am not ill with

you and I am not trying to get an argument started for

I value each and every one of your opionions.

Including yours sweetie! This just was not right.
