Tina:

I didn't know they made AFO socks. I wasn't given any with Leah when she got

hers. I just use knee socks for now with hers. How are AFO socks different

than other socks? Have you checked with them where they get them? Can you

check with any of your therapists? Let us know. Never knew they made these

things. A friend of mine has three kids with AFO's and they use regular long

socks with them depending on how high up they go.

These socks have a tighter band around the top, cling to the skin better and have no heel. They seem to be a little better than the regular sock. I've heard that if you order extra pairs from the provider of the AFO's they run from $40-$70. That's crazy. In searching, after I posted, I found a place in Canada that has them for $6-$7 according to how many you purchase. I still will like to find somewhere in the USA. The place to check is www.sock-em.com

This looks great. Is anyone aware if there is anyone in Australia making a similar product? If so, do you have the details?

We find it difficult to find socks that don't mark 's legs, with the pattern of the sock, because of the added presure of the AFO pressing them into 's legs.

& Savage.

We've found a MUCH cheaper alternative. Actually, 's PT

suggested them. We buy the " triple roll " socks at Old Navy, The

Children's Place or The Gap. So far, the ones from Old Navy are the

cheapest. Because they have the " triple roll " , when you unroll it, it

will go up to 's knee. We then fold over the extra material to

cover the AFO. They are not 100% cotton either but pretty close. Let

me know if this works for anyone.Take Care! Diane- mom to 7 1/2

Hi Diane:

That is what we do. We just get either knee socks, triple roll socks and

actually I didn't think of rolling them over the AFO's until I saw that at

school. I think part of that is so the plastic of the AFO doesn't feel

uncomfortable in the back of Leah's legs when she is on the ground and

kicking around and such. It takes a little bit to find the socks; but it is

cheaper. I also have used her brothers old tub socks. No heel and can pull

them up to her knee to accomodate the AFO's. I guess I haven't noticed the

imprint of the sock design on Leah's legs. With a special needs child a

person needs to be inventive in looking at everyday products to accomodate

our children.
