Now, the radiation is a different story - every dang day, right? But DH works at NY Hospital, so maybe I can sweet talk him into driving, then I'll just cab it back. Thanks for the citation. You're still in fighting mode, which is physically exhausting. The good news is (and remember, age is only a number, like statistics), you'll be back to your old self in no time once this is all behind you. I'm "mentoring" a woman going through chemo right now (husband works with mine). She said to me on Sunday, "Will I ever have the spunk you have and the energy to laugh and have fun again?" I didn't always have it, especially during treatment. But I rejoice every day that I'm here, and bask in the goodness of every single minute. I could have crawled into a hole, but that's not me...a true survivor takes her course of therapy, puts her best foot forward and reaches out to encourage and nurture those along the way needing a hand. This doesn't end when treatment is finished...it is a daily work, a labor of love of sorts, to share of yourself and support those around us. I've started my carrot juice again, to help regain some strength I've lost since this full-time endeavor. I never felt better than when I incorporate that "magic" into my daily life. I'm glad you're enjoying it too. Janet, I'm loving this job and the senior partner told me yesterday "You're an integral part of this firm" (and that was after 45 days!) I couldn't have done it without your words of incredible encouragement and wisdom, and I'm thankful for your friendship. Where's our girl Trish?? Two years and you are back to work, volunteering in BC circles, etc. How do you do it? I forget sometimes what it's like to be young with all that energy......I will turn 70 in 14 days..........and I am tired all the time. But I do look forward to next year when this is all behind me. And, I have used the " Y-Me " hotline, late at night, sobbing into a washcloth so I don't wake any one up, more than a few times. On the other hand, I had my last chemo today, and I feel very good about the future. My tumor was ER/PR+, and Her2 -, 4.9 cm, and 5 nodes involved, so - of course - I am off to radiation next. I am 43, mom of 4 children, ages 25, 17, 15 and 13. I am Her 2 positive, and Estrogen positive. I had a large tumor and one lymph node involved, so they are shrinking the tumor first with chemo, then bilateral mastectomies with expanders put in at the time of surgery, then radiation. My surgery date has been set- Sept 29th. I had 12 weeks of A/C and now have 8 more weeks of Taxol and Herceptin, then three weeks break, then the surgery. I breezed through the others, with only the tiniest bit of toe numbness. The bone pain and general exhaustion this time has been rather limiting. I am glad to hear you are tolerating it well. Even this last one hasn't been too bad, really. I told my onc I was willing to do more if she thought it would help, and she talked me down. Where are you in your treatment now? I can see that the effects are cumulative and that it does get harder on the body each time. Have you already had your surgery ? I am sorry - I can't remember a lot of things! I am Estrogen positive but have Her 2 positive and my tumor was fast growing.They are having to shrink my tumor down -- haven't had my surgery yet. Will have bilateral mastectomies Sept 29. I had my surgery on March 17th, and had 4 cycles of A/C every two weeks, and 4 of Taxol. My radiation should start in three weeks. I'm still taking frequent naps, and my son is watching more DVDs than I would like, but the fatigue is getting better. How are you doing? I was starting to wonder if maybe you were on vacation or something. , glad to see you started radiation. You'll get over that modesty by the time you reach 30 treatments. Believe me, they have seen them ALL. I met a " radiation " friend during my treatments with prostate cancer. I used to think, " and I thought I had to show too much. " Always realize it could be 10x more embarrassing. , I can't believe your surgery date is next month already. I will pray no nodes are involved, but just know if they are (I had 6 of 23), life can and will continue with all these new treatments/drugs. I think at one time, people would think " 6 nodes, that's not good, it will come back. " You have to be more " Positive " than the * & ^%( nodes and believe in your heart you have the best care, treatment and positive attitude and you will get past all that. Did I ever think I could get to my (2) year anniversary (6/04) without a recurrence? I knew my chances were slim, but dammit, it's just a number and I've got too much to do!!!!
