Rice Husks

I have been taking a supplement for 2 weeks that has stabalized rice husks as a

base. I justified this by figuring corn husks would be SCD legal even if corn

isn't so a rice husk should be legal too.

After 2 weeks of doing this supplement my 5 months of D have stopped and I

actually am feeling pretty normal- FINALLY.

Does anyone else have experience of using rice husk or stabalized rice bran

products? I really want to stay SCD legal but to not have D after 5 MONTHS

straight is like a miracle. Any thoughts? Any experience?

I won't pitch a product here but you can send me an e-mail if you want more

info.

Rice bran oil can be legal.

I have read that some people on Pecanbread have used supplements

containing rice bran itself.

I know that Elaine was very cautious on stuff like this because of

lignins and other hard-to-digest things contained in them which can feed

the bad bugs even while you think it is helping.

Marilyn, thanks for the response. As long as Pecanbread people have used it with no negative feedback.... I'm going to stick with this for another 2.5 months. I know two people with Crohn's that have used this product and 3 month's later, one has no symptoms and the other had a colonoscopy and was declared in remission. I figure that I have been desperate for 6 months now and if my D is finally gone (after 16 days), this product might be the answer to my prayers.

Their description is "A non-chemically modified all natural product developed from stabilized rice bran. XXXX! is rich in dietary fiber, thiamin, niacin, vitamin B6, magnesium and phosphorus. Good quality fat includes omega-3 (90mg) and omega-6 (1710mg) fatty acids.

Provides energy

Provides 483mg of phytonutrients and 483mg of antioxidants

Provides a rich source of thiamin, niacin, vitamin B6 magnesium and phosphorus

Helps to support normal cholesterol and blood glucose levels

Helps to promote good intestinal health

I'll be the guinea pig and will keep the site informed. If anyone else wants to guinea pig with me, send me an e-mail for the info.

BTW/ what I've found out is - the reason rice bran or rice husks is "NEW" is because up until 2 years ago, rice husks would become rancid after a couple of days. Apparently this company designed a way to stabilize the husks in a drying process and they now have a 3 year life span. They contain 28 times the antioxidants that blueberries have. Other products with the rice bran base are performing miracles in joint and muscle areas as well.

Terri,

In searching on Pecanbread, I found a note that Elaine had okayed a

supplement with rice bran husks because it was the oil part that was

used. When a none-husk version was developed, that became the preferred

one.

FIBER is one of those things which is highly touted for intestinal

health. That's what, from what you posted, this product promotes. You

might also consider that this product might not have been a miracle if

you hadn't been SCD for six months.

I'm not surprised rice husks are a new darling of the nutriceutical

world. A few years ago, it was spirulina. Then it was CoQ10. Then it was

5-HTP. And all of them are supposed to be good for everything.

I'll take a solidly nutritional diet over a miracle supplement any

day.

This is not to say I'm against supplements. There's one I use that I

couldn't survive without -- my alternative is more codeine than I want to

think about.

I'm just saying -- be careful. I've lost track of how many supplements I

tried over 25 years of IBS misery. SCD is the only thing which has lasted

long term.
