Guest guest
Hi , The subject of traveling really depends on how soon you plan on traveling after surgery. It is a subject that you should bring up with your surgeon. I am saying this mostly because of the risks of complications after surgery. The outside of the wound does heal fairly quickly but they say that it takes up to 6 months for the insides to heal completely. I myself wouldn't like any complications that I couldn't get in touch with my doctor or go to my nearest Kaiser facility. After surgery it does take time before you feel like you usual self and can walk a long distance. That is just my 2 cents worth.Ramona
Guest guest
Thanks Ramona for your advice! I will for sure discuss this with Dr Baggs. I just wanted to start looking around for places to stay and won't bother if I have to wait much more than a year to travel again. I just don't like to stay in one place for very long. That will help with getting up and moving around though post op, I suppose! lol Thanks again,
Guest guest
My surgery is September 21, and I plan to fly from LA to Philadelphia at Christmastime. I asked my surgeon, Dr. Leo , and he said it would be OK, just to plan on a walk up and down the aisle of the plane once an hour. But, by all means check with your own surgeon (I plan to again, once I'm post-op.) Pat Pre-Op in SoCA > Hi Everyone, > I have not been around much in the last couple months. Guest guest
Hi , Ramona makes a good point about considering that internally you’re still healing up to 6 months after surgery, even though outwardly you’ll probably be feeling pretty well within a couple months. From my personal experience…I didn’t go overseas, but I did take a trip from California to North Carolina (about 6 hours on the plane) about 5 weeks after my surgery (I had LAP RNY). The trip was totally fine for me…I was comfortable on the plane and everywhere we went I was able to find things that were “approved” for me to eat. All in all it was a good trip and no problems from surgery or eating. You mentioned you’ll probably be having surgery this Dec/Jan and thinking about traveling next Fall – so about 9 months or so from your surgery date – I would think you’d be just fine, but always good to run it by your doctor for an official medical opinion. P.S. I’m now almost 4 months post op and am scheduled to go to Florida (from CA) the first week of October. I don’t anticipate any problems with that trip either. - Lesa - Re: Question- Travel?
