Guest guest
Hi Kris, What a pain to have to replace your power supply! I am glad you got your computer back up and running though. In order of your questions: 1. I have never heard of IgEN, so I don't know the differences between IgAN and IgEN. Since I have never heard of IgEN, I doubt it is related or else it should have come up earlier with over a thousand members on this board. 2. Being cold does go with renal insufficiency. I get very cold too, and when I am more anemic, it is even worse. You might have your doctor check to see if you are anemic next time you have labs drawn. Usually this is not a problem unless you are around 30% or below. 3. I know of no connection between cystic acne and IgAN, other than the fact that Prednisone does cause acne as a side effect if you are on that. You have a wonderful New Years too! Guest guest
Hi Kris, Fissures on the tongue can be caused by almost anything. Different medications can cause them and also allergies. Liver problems can also cause them. There was a recent study on tongue fissures caused by liver problems. The suggestion was to make sure to drink enough water and eat a well-balanced diet without a lot of sugar. Sorry I can't narrow it down, but just wanted you to know the tongue fissures can be caused by many different things. I hope you get some relief soon as they are very annoying and sometimes painful! ~Dana More questions from me.... Hey all, Sorry to be so 'gone' for the past couple of weeks, but my computer fried my power supply and had to be replaced!! UGH, they aren't very expensive, but I just had a hard time getting it worked into the rest of the schedule!!! LOL Anyways, I have a few more questions for anyone and everyone who would like to answer.... First of all, does anyone know the difference between IGAN and IGEN?? I have fissures on my tongue and when I asked my neph about them, she said that she thought it might be an IGEN symptom... does this mean that I have anything different than what I originally thought? She didn't give me too much info... and I'm really curious!! I thought I saw something online about it having something to do with allergies?? Well, believe me when I say, I have had almost every allergy imagineable for almost all of my life... and asthma to boot... how are these things related?? Anyone know?? Also, I have become so very cold blooded... used to be hot all the time... but now I can barely warm up most days!! Does this have anything to do with the kidneys and their function?? And, one last question... for the past few years I have been battling cycstic acne. It is terrible.. the acne seldom ever comes to a head, and whenever I am able to remove one of the 'sores' it almost always has a really hard core to it. Has anyone else experience this... and does it have anything to do with the kidney and IGAN??? I was so shocked when one of the members here wrote about the spontaneous bruising... I have had that going on for about the last 9-10 years!!! I thought it was some of the meds I was on or something!!!! Anyways, any info would be so greatly appreciated!!! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, and have a great New Year ahead!!!! Hugs, Kris
Guest guest
Sorry Kris, I've never heard of anything called IGEN. Like the immunoglobulin A in IgAN, there is an immunoglobulin (IgE) which is mainly involved with allergies, but I have no idea what the " N " would mean. I have had allergies myself, since I was young (skin and respiratory), and I eventually developed asthma, but I don't relate it to having IgAN in any way. We can all have multiple medical conditions that are there, but unrelated. Do we know for sure? No. Cold intolerance is common in people who have renal problems ranging chronic renal insufficiency right into end-stage renal disease. But the renal failure usually has to be relatively advanced. Having anemia also causes this, and kidney disease does cause anemia. Again, sometimes we just don't know if something we have is related to something else we also have. For example, I started having the symptoms of Raynaud's Syndrome around 1995-96. Why? I don't know. I never had it before. I was around 35-40% kidney function at the time. Maybe related, maybe not. Not much I could do about it anyway. At the time, I thought it might be caused by the BP meds, but now I don't think so, because I've been on different classes of BP meds and nothing changed. I don't know of any relation with IgAN for the other things you mention. One little bit of advice though... It seems to be a normal human need to have an nice, neat explanation for everything, and when we have a disease like IgAN, we tend to want to explain anything else we might have in relation to the IgAN. I personally have never seen a pattern of things that are related except the know symptoms of HSP. Allergies is a subject that has frequently come up on this forum. Well, the problem is that allergies are pretty common in the general population, so, it's probably just a coincidence that someone has IgAN plus allergies. We can never know for sure, but knowing wouldn't solve anything anyway.
