How about free weights? You can get them relatively cheaply at most sporting

goods stores.

I've thought about that but I really can't afford to pay for an exercise

program anywhere right now so I need to find something I can do at home.

Hi!

I believe water aerobics .... or at least water exercise would be good

.....

it has less/no impact on your knees.

Dana,

Have you thought about talking to your doctor? She may have some ideas.

You mean as far as an exercise program? My doctor actually suggested the water

aerobics.

Do the weights do that much good when you're not doing anything else or are you

just moving your upper body?

Every little bit helps. Ask yourself this...does doing nothing do any

good? Is that better than weights? Of course not. You have to start

somewhere. Weights will get you started. Part of what you want your goal

to be is to make exercise a part of your daily life. We have to crawl

before we can walk. I say start with the weights and don't worry too

much about burning a lot of calories at this point. Concentrate more on

your food and just moving every day.

I LOVE water aerobics. It is low impact, not no impact, however. The

first couple of days my knees where tired. I have bad knees too. I

love elliptical trainers too.

Does the pressure of walking hurt your knees? Do you just need something

where you wouldn't put impact on your knees? If so, would exercise bike work

..... of course you'd be bending/working your knees; however, you wouldn't have

the body weight on them .... seems like one of my customers who has bad knees

..... her doctor mentioned that method to her ....

Hi ,

I've thought about water aerobics and I may go to that at one point. Right now

I don't have a bathing suit and can't afford to get one. Plus I really don't

want to be seen in one right now either!

Re: exercise and bad knees

Dana, check with your local hospital, they might have resources where you

could get reduced or even free entry to a pool for excerise... also some

area WMCA's do ablitity to pay fee structure.

just some thoughts....
