Hi oh yes Sharon, there are real issues I am dealing with right now.

Especially being one year 3 months out. I lived in the house so long

and afraid of the hurtful things being said to me by " thin people " .

Now that I have this " new body " , I still have a hard time just

getting started back into this new life. I am ashamed that I am not

" living " . I am frankly just " existing " .

I live off of disability and alimony (barely enough to cut it), and I

am so afraid of getting back out into the " real world " as I do not mesh

very well with others. Working is what I am talking about. On the

soial front I am a-ok. I am always on guard for anyone to criticize me.

I don't take things with a grain of salt. This, I am afraid will keep

me from working under other people.

I love to work, but I cannot stand people talking down to me, I have

had enough of that in my life. I work much better on my own, without

someone hovering over me.

I ave a boyfriend, but am not going out anywhere as he lives 1000

miles away. I see him every couple of months, but then again, that's a

drag.

I am rambling on about my own personal problems, ugh. I don't need

an antidepressant, if anything they make me more messed up.

There I have aired my dirty laundry, do I feel better? No I don't,

because only I can make a change.

jennifer (admitted former fat person) now not living life as she should,

I am a chicken, LOL.

Hi . I'm so glad for Alena , I pray it keeps up. I just wonder if she does't have a deep seated infection somewhere that is not increasing her white blood count (usually when you have an infection your WBC are elevated). Like me with this root canal problem (infection) When they did my CBC, all was normal but I still have this deep infection from the root canal. I wonder if she could have a severe inflammation or chronic infection in her tonsils or adenoids or middle ear. In your tonsils you have all these little crypts or pockets that can hold bacteria and become a chronic thing. After having a bout of tonsilitis the exodate can change into a foul smelling cheese like cork that stays in those little pockets. Just a thought. For her antibiotics to be working so great there has just got to be an infection or inflammation somewhere. What does the Dr. have her on. Fondly,

I am really interested in your response, but accidently deleted it while trying to print it out! Could you please forward it again because I haven't figured out how to use the yahoo groups thing yet & am only able to access this through my e-mail.

Thanks,

Hi ,

I hope Alena continues to improve. It is hard when your child has CU and there doesn't seem to be anything you can do for them. I wondered about antibiotics for some hidden infection when my daughter was diagnosed over a year ago. The doctor wouldn't hear of it though then a few months later she had two bouts with strep throat and a urinary tract infection which as a result she was put on antibiotics. It didn't do anything for her CU though. What kind of antibiotic is Alena on and how long will she have to take it?

Best Wishes,

Donna (Richmond, IN)

Hi ,

Anti-biotics have been reported to make a difference here if there is some kind of infection. A lot of these infections can be the cause of the urticaria, and once the effects of the antibiotic on the infection kick in it can mean that the urticaria improves or disappears as a result. Kind of like the urticaria is the secondary problem. Logical really. The infection can be hidden, as is often the case with occult infection after bodged root canal work, or it could be attributed to something like the H-pylori bacteria. I'm sure there are many many others and I'm hoping somebody else will jump here because my brain is REALLY like a sieve today - I have a lot on my mind! Perhaps Alena has something squiffy in her stomach, seeing as she was taking gastrocom and zantac (although the zantac was probably prescribed to work with the zytec, rather than specifically for her stomach?) But it will be interesting to see if Alena's condition gets any worse again once she has finished the course, although obviously I hope not. How long is 'long term'? Hopefully if it is some kind of infection that is responding to the anti-biotics then it will be well and truly dead by the time Alena finishes the course.

That's such terrific news - we've all been rooting for you!

Hi all~Alena's peditrician just put her on long term antibiotics and she has NO HIVES going on three days. He doesn't know why it is working or if it will last, but like all things it's taking a stab in the dark. Anyone have any thoughts on this? She is even off of the atarax, zyrtec, zantac, gastrocrom and periactin. : Makes me wonder if Alena has some type of infection going on? Will be interesting to see when she is done her course of antibiotics whether things continue to go well.

,

I think you are right about the antibiotics Alena is on for a "masked" infection. I know that when my son was younger, he was diagnosed with cytomegula (sp ?) virus (sorta like mono) but the only way to completely clear his system was remove those tonsils and adenoids. They were so badly infected. Also I have read about the inner ear problems causing masked infections as well.

Hi Adrienne,

I am sure we all thought the same thing when we told about losing the 10%. The weight lose is actually to free up your internal organs and make it easier in you and the surgeon. I know that when first heard that I was shocked and in denial. When the second weight in came I realized that I needed to get serious about this and changed my way if thinking.

Also By staying on the 1200 calorie meal plan really helps you get on track for when you have your surgery and you need to eat small meals and chew your meat 30 times. Believe me there is noting worst than not taking your time eating your food and chewing it properly. The first time I swallowed too soon I felt about 30 seconds later I had swallowed a bowling ball and it was about to come out my back. I am sure you will do fine.

I went with loooow carb (but tried to keep the calories under 1200

too) and replaced a meal and a snack with a low carb high protein

shake(hmmm, sounds a lot like what I am doing post-op) also lots of

exercise, you'll get there!

Hi Everyone -

I thought you had to lose 10%, not 30%! Am I right?

Please keep your fingers crossed for me. My doctor is going to be submitting the "letter" to the approval panel. I met with a nutritionist and had a psych evaluation. I have 2 morbidities - Arthritis and GERD, and may also have sleep apnea. I'm 5' 1 1/2 and weight 237.5, my BMI is 43 or 44. I'm 53 years old.

I pray constantly that I'll be approved for the surgery. I have no quality of life the way I am, and am constantly afraid that I'm going to have a stroke or heart attack and die. My grandmother was obese and died of a heart attach when she was in her late 50's.

Why are some people not approved? I feel strongly that I meet the requirements. I sent my doctor a very detailed letter explaining why I feel I should be approved. She's a great doctor and is my advocate in this process. If you don't get approved, can you appeal?

How long does it typically take to find out if you're approved? The psychologist told me they have a new process and you're supposed to find out within 2 weeks of them receiving the letter from my primary doctor.

Thank you all!

Thanks

Re: A Question

and I forgot to say........one of the reasons I really recommend the pre op food plan in the book...........It is really what you will be following in an abbrevitated form after wls and when you get to eat real food. this will help you get familiar with it....

Hi ,

It takes about 2 weeks in Nor Cal to find out if you have been

approved /denied for surgery. You can call SSF Kaiser after

that period of time and get the results.

If you do get denied(it seems like you should be approved)

there is an appeal process. It can prolong the process but I know

first hand that the review board does over turn denials and grant

surgeries to those originally denied.

And don't panic, it is 10% that you are required to lose, not 30%.

Best of luck on your WLS process,

D

Pre-0p

Approved after an appeal for Fremont
