JIM IN HOSPITAL

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that Jim is in the hospital...I took him to the emergency room today around noon. He's having severe pain all thru lower back and around right side of lower abdomen. He's literally "full of shit"...nothing is passing thru his intestines and his stomach is soooooooo distended as if he was pregnant. The doctors are not really sure why this happened. They're guessing --possibly from the pain meds he's on for the pancreatitis (but what I don't get is that he's been on these same pain meds for about 8 months now, so why all of a sudden would this happen?--he's on oxycontin 40mg twice a day, Percocet 10mg every 4 hours and the Duragesic Pain Patch 50 mcg) or if something went wrong the last time he was at cleveland clinic (jan. 24th). On Jan. 24th, Dr. Popp did a neurolytic celiac phenol block--Jim was really in more pain after the procedure than before! Since this procedure, he's only had gone diarrhea once and one bowel movement around the end of Jan. The pain started about 4 days ago but kept growing with intensity. He really didn't want to go to the hospital so we tried a fleet enema at home and he also drank magnesium citrate with no relief. Tomorrow the GI docs are going to see him. Today he was not allowed to eat or even drink anything....just allowed him a few icechips all day.

I'll keep y'all posted on his condition.

Just curious if anyone else has faced anything like this??

Hi Lorrie,

Oh my gosh! Poor Jim! I hope he is going to be all right!?!? I

have been told you can develop a reaction to any medication at any

time, even if you have taken it for years! Isn't that odd? I sure

am hoping thats what is going on with our friend. Please, tell him

I'm thinking about him, and I'm saying a special little prayer just

for him. And please, take care of yourself. I know how hard it is

when we have a loved on in the hospital. Thanks for letting us know!

Lots of Hugs,
