Guest guest
My new Kaiser PCP is in Aliso Viejo; the one who actually processed my application is in Mission Viejo. My 3 evaluations in San Diego were June 22, and I got "the call" July 26. Kaiser required that I work formally with a dietician so I signed up for the 10-week "Freedom From Fat" class taught in Orange. I think it ended in early May. I've just started the class again, because it helps me to focus and lose weight--I still have about 10 pounds to lose over the next 8 weeks. I'm sure I can do it. Where will you be staying in San Diego, Shirley? I'll be anxiously watching for reports of your experiences (and all who go before me this summer) at Scripps and with PB just before, during and immediately post-op. I've started a calendar with the names of all the people headed for PB soon. You'll all be in my thoughts and prayers! Seemed to go very slowly, but now time is flying!Iron. All my pre-op lab tests are low - especially % saturation and ferritin level, so I was put on iron supplements - 200 mg of ferrous fumarate 3x/day. (My red blood count is low but in range so I am not officially anemic.) Over the weekend, after 4 days of just 300 mg/day (I was "building up"), I developed vertigo, a wickedheadache and nausea. My doctor was on vacation (of course!) but I was told to stop the iron and wait for further instructions from him this week. While waitin g to hear from the doc I'm wondering what is the recommended/safe dosage for ferrous fumarate? (The package says one 50 mg tablet/day unless otherwise directed by a physician.) My doctor initially said to take ferrous sulfate, so when I asked to take the fumarate I may have thrown him off. Also, does anyone know if iron is available in injection form? I've heard both yes andno, so I'm confused.Rejoice with me at getting my date, and enlighten me if you can this is suddenly getting serious! :)PatPre-op (A Little Longer!) in SoCA
Guest guest
Hi Pat, Congrats on getting a date!!! I have heard many wonderful things about Dr. Leo . You will certainly be in good hands. Sorry, I can't help with the iron questions - I'll confess that I get a tad confused about all the various forms of iron and so on. Guest guest
Thanks for the congrats--I really am getting excited. Are you having a lap procedure with Dr. Tanaka? If so, that may be the reason for the longer wait. I was willing to have an open, which is all that Dr. Leo does, so that may have speeded me up. Another reason for the delay might be vacations! I know Dr. Leo is going away for the month of October so I'm very glad to be getting in before he leaves. Good luck to you. Pat Pre-Op in SoCA Quoting Ron : > Congratulations on getting your date.
