Hi Tonya,

I am glad that you thought it out and are staying. It is so important that you have a good support team and that your boss is one of the support people.

Good for you Tonya!

I knew you would make the best decision for YOU! It sounds as if at

least for now, your employer is really helping you through this

journey and you should stay. I bet just making the decision takes

away tons of stress !!

Good Luck to you

Good luck Tonya – I know it’s

a hard decision, but your current employer sure does sound flexible, which is

great!

Update from Tonya

I don't have to give my final answer until Friday, but

I'm 95%

certain that I'm turning down the Bakersfield job

offer.

Though the lure of having Lap-Banding is tempting,

I know myself. I

have a feeling that if I were to take the position

and switch

carriers, I may not have the courage to pursue WLS

a second time.

Also, like many of you, I do find some comfort in

Kaiser's thorough

process. I know it can be frustrating, but for me,

it ensures that

I'm in the right hands and makes me feel

supported.

The insurance issues aside, I've been able to have

a couple long

talks about WLS with my current employer. She is

amazingly

supportive, which drives home the point to me that

this is the right

place for me to be when I have surgery. Not only

will they bend over

backward to help me adjust my schedule as

necessary, but they have

already begun adjusting my schedule so that I have

more time off for

exercise and such. I'm sure not everyone has such

agreeable

employers, which is why I think this is a good

deal.

So, you're all still stuck with me. I'll be

honest, I'm still scared

of surgery, but I'm terrified of being this size

for the rest of my

life. In this case, fear wins out.

company I would be joining isn't in a position to

wait

for me to have the surgery (I still don't have a

Sept.

I've looked into the other company's carrier more

closely, and also what's offered in Bakersfield as

well. It turns out that if I take the Blue Cross

PPO

option, I could not only have WLS in Bakersfield,

but

I'd have my pick among three different procedures

(DDS, RNY or Lap-Band). The downside is that the

significantly

more than Kaiser would require me to pay now. My

in-laws (wonderful people that they are) have

balance

Hi Tonya,

I too have a job that has been great.. they let me change my hours so that I can go to the gym in the morning..and when ever I have an appointment they are more then happy to give me the time off.... they are also making arrangements for when I have the surgery(I hope in Nov.,) It really helps when the people you work with are willing to work with you... and support you... most of us spend more of our time at work then any where else... I wish you the best of luck...

Hi Tonya,

Sounds to me like you are making a very good choice. Approaching WLS

and learning to live with our new selves after surgery can be times of

great upheaval and being in a supportive situation at work could make

things that much easier for you - where being in a new work environment

could add extra stress that you certainly won't need in these times of

transition.

Being scared of surgery is perfectly normal - it is a major undertaking.

But, when we reach a point where the potential benefits far outweigh

the risks, then we need to accept our decisions and prepare ourselves

for the journey - wherever it takes us.

All the best,
