Guest guest
Hi Mimiwilder, My surgery is tomorrow at the Richmond Kaiser with Dr. Fisher. Where will yours be done? And who is your doctor? I am starting to get a little nervous. But I am still excited. Have you received a time for your surgery yet? I haven’t yet. -----Original Message----- From: mimiwilder Sent: Tuesday, July 27, 2004 8:40 AM To: gastric-bypass-support-kaiser-patients Subject: Day before your surgery I was wondering what people ate the day before the surgery? Guest guest
Glad to hear back form you. I am not sticking to the diet exactly as they have it. But I do stay between 1000 and 1200 calories per day. I haven’t had anything to eat yet today. And haven’t really thought about it yet. The main problem that I have been having this last week is that everyone I know wants to have me over for dinner before I won’t be able to eat like everyone else. But I have been doing good and I have been walking a lot. Where do you live? I am in Lodi. Hopefully we can meet tomorrow and maybe walk the halls together. -----Original Message----- From: mimiwilder Sent: Tuesday, July 27, 2004 9:46 AM To: gastric-bypass-support-kaiser-patients Subject: Re: Day before your surgery HI, No I don't know when my surgery time is yet. Guest guest
I know what you mean about people wanting you to eat before hand. I have been good sticking to it. Today I did not know if we were suposed to eat less then the 1200 a day but I called they said stick to it. It would be nice if we could meet up after surgery and walk the halls. After I get my surgery date I will email you and tell you what time I got. Guest guest
I know Oakley. I have parrots and their vet is in Oakley. Who is coming with you to the hospital tomorrow? My husband, Lee, will be with me. We are both self employed so he will probably be the one in the waiting area with the cell phone. I don’t think I will be able to sleep tonight. I never sleep the night before a trip and this sort of feels like that. I sure wish we would hear from Kaiser. There are lots of errands that I could be doing, but I am afraid to leave the phone. -----Original Message----- From: mimiwilder Sent: Tuesday, July 27, 2004 10:18 AM To: gastric-bypass-support-kaiser-patients Subject: Re: Day before your surgery I know what you mean about people wanting you to eat before hand. Guest guest
Hi MArlene, What my book says in regard to the day before is : 1 day before Eat a high protein but light meal befroe 6 PM the day befroe surgery. Examples include grilled or broiled fish and steamed vegetable. No Buffets or heavy meals! Drink at least 64 oz of water. It is very important that you are hydrated. Night before the surgery Do not drink or eat anything after midnight. It is important that there be no food or liquid in your stomach at the time of surgery You should get some instruction though when you get your time of surgery. Good luck Ramona mimiwilder wrote: I was wondering what people ate the day before the surgery? My surgery is tomorrow, I don't want to mess up. If someone can respond I would appresate it!!!! Guest guest
Apparently your program was drastically different from Pacific Bariatric's instructions. (Kaiser sent me to San Diego for surgery). We were told to start a special (stomach clearing) diet 3 days before surgery. The day before surgery included a dose of Milk of Magnesia have only clear juices like white cranberry or apple juice, sugar free drinks or jello. Clear broth is also allowed on the day before surgery. This was the instructions from those surgeons in San Diego. I suggest you check with the surgical group that will be doing your surgery about what you can eat. I'm surprised they didn't give you written instructions about preparing for surgery. (Or did they, and you misplaced them?) Any way, I wish you the best of health and easy recovery from your surgery. I'll pray for you. --Sandi H. > I was wondering what people ate the day before the surgery? My > surgery is tomorrow, I don't want to mess up. One thing i did omit because they usually tell you at the pre-op meeting is that you need to take 3 tablespoons of Milk of Magnesia the day before Between 6AM and 10 am. Good Luck tomorrow. ramonamimiwilder wrote: Thank you so much for the info. I am at work and did not bring my book with me> I was wondering what people ate the day before the surgery? Guest guest
Sandy, The directions we receive from Kaiser in Richmond is to stay on the 1200 calorie diet, take Milk of Magnesia the morning before WLS, not eat any food after 6:00pm, and to not take any liquids after midnight the night before surgery. It would be nice if we all had the same instructions. It would save a lot of confusion. A friend of mine had her WLS done in San Diego. She speaks very highly of them down there and she was disappointed that I was having my surgery done in Richmond. But I really like Dr. Fisher and have been happy with everyone at Richmond Kaiser. It has taken a long time to get to this point and it will be good to have tomorrow done with. -----Original Message----- From: Sandi H. Guest guest
I ate nothing but clear liquids (broth, water, jello, etc.) the day before my surgery. Pacific Bariatric (Dr. Tanaka) did my surgery and their program states that surgery will be cancelled if you eat anything solid the day before. - Lesa - Day before your surgery I was wondering what people ate the day before the surgery? Guest guest
Sandi, I also had my surgery at Pacific Bariatric 3 months ago and it seems they’ve changed their protocol since your had your experience with them. They no longer require you to do the special “stomach clearing” diet 3 days before surgery. You can eat whatever you want until the day before surgery, then it’s clear liquids only that day (and the milk of magnesia) and nothing after midnight.
