, the way I understand it is the Chantix blocks the nicotine from the

receptors that make it work. In other words, the nicotine does nothing. So....

do you get nicotine withdrawals from this medication? It sounds like quitting

cold turkey in the fact the nicotine does not act at all on your body. Just a

question.

thanks and good luck,

You can do it,

Before I completely log off tonight, I just want to say that this was

my 3rd day on Chantix and so far, I have been able to use the funky

fake cigarette (that was from another attempt 3 years ago, it tastes

terrible but it's like really smoking an inch long cigarette and it

did not work) part of the time and have smoked less than a pack in 2

days! What I like about this is that you gradually take yourself off

and also set a target date to stop! And also, it is not like some of

the past drugs, there is no warning that should you smoke while using

it, you could have a heart attack --- at least I haven't seen that bit

of info in the literature. And also, a one months supply is about 1/2

what I often pay in 2 or 3 weeks of smoking (another way to justify

the initial purchase!)

Deb V.,

I know this question was not for me. But my father smoked for 40

years and quit so easily with Chantix. He did not go through

withdrawals... What happens is you smoke the 1st week or 2 while on

it and the urge fades... He has been cig free for over a year now.

Good luck. It's not easy I know. I smoke myself....
