Guest guest
No, can't handle avocado. But I never liked avocado much, even before my upper GI went wonky, so I don't miss it. Plus now I can't handle the spices and onions used in making guacomole. I suspect you'll have to do your own experimenting, though. Some foods that are rather high in certain fats are OK with my upper GI, and others cause immediate problems. For example, a spoon of peanut butter triggers only a mild and brief surge of nausea, but a spoon of almond or pecan butter sends me to bed with severe nausea and SOD spasms, regardless of what it is mixed with or in... Some things get through my upper GI with the "normal" after-a-meal symptoms, only to trigger an episode of steatorrhea two days later. Steatorrhea is excessive fat in the stools. I'll be discussing this newish symptom with my gastroenterologist next month when I see him for my annual checkup, as it's been happening much more frequently... The sad thing is that I'm not eating any differently now than I was four years ago, so apparently my upper GI is faltering or deteriorating. Not unexpected, but I hoped I could go longer before the next stage [sigh]. Kim M.
