Guest guest
Hi Judy and Friends, We all know how frustrating this disease is. I am in pain ALL the time. I don't know what the solution is for the pain and fatigue. I did have tremendous relief with Cymbalta. I actually felt great. But, I developed urinary retention with it and had to go to a urologist. He said I needed to stop it unless I wanted to have to catheterize myself a few times/day. That thought actually doesn't phase me as I am a nurse but, it is a high infection risk for UTI's and kidney infections. Then over a year later, I went on Lyrica and that helped a great deal. But, I gained 13 pounds in 3 weeks. It was all water. After I stopped it, I was non-stop peeing for 2 days..LOL. Now I am still in pain and am taking Provigil,Effexor, Ultracet, Skelaxin, assorted vitamins, and started with the Ultracet to take Motrin and Excedrin for headaches.I have a TENS unit too.I get accupuncture 2/3 times per week along with chiropractic care, also a 30 minute massage once/week.I get all those special things from no-fault as i was rear-ended 2 months ago and suffered whiplash. My MD did refer me to a pain specialist but, I haven't gone yet.She just referred me 3 days/ago.I went back to work last week..22 hours/week as a pediatric nurse. Honestly, I am shot to heck! My family wants me to get a permanent disability but, in my head, I feel like I'm giving up or I am at the end of my life..what else will I do?I've been a nurse for almost 30 years. I'm only 47 now and have so much to be happy for.I love my family, husband of 20 years, and 4 great kids. My 10 month old Grandaughter is the light of my life..I adore her.Is there anyone out there that feels the same way about the disability portion of it..it's so tough..Well, gotta get to bed..feel good everyone..Love, Elaine **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)
Guest guest
***Note from Co-Owner: Permanent disability was done away with during the last presidential administration, also if you are still on disability by the time you get to 62-65 that disability check reverts to a regular social security check. *** I used to feel that way about disability. I found that one needs to plan on it taking 3 years to get social security disability because more than half the approved claims must go before an Administrative Law Judge. There is a limited time from when you stop working and when your eligibility for Social Security Disability runs out. Then you might qualify for a lower grade of benefits if you have NO assets (IRA, cars, etc.) and your spouse has basically no income. > > Hi Judy and Friends, .... > My family wants me to get a permanent disability > but, in my head, I feel like I'm giving up or I am at the > end of my life..what else will I do?I've been a nurse for > almost 30 years. Guest guest
*No one can really tell someone they need to go out on disability. I think that should be a decision thought thru carefully and discussed with dr and family. If you feel that working is something you are unable to do any longer, maybe try cutting back your hours or do home health nursing? I agree this disease is frustrating. Even more frustrating are the drs that out us through so much stress with medications for pain etc..* *I will keep you in my prayers,* *hugs,* ** > Hi Judy and Friends, > We all know how frustrating this disease is. Guest guest
If you were just rear-ended a couple of months ago, I wouldn't think about permanent disability right now. I know when I was in a car accident and had whiplash - even though physically I had had no problems before that - I had to stop working for awhile because of the pain. But with treatment, it gradually got better. The acupuncture was one thing that really helped me with the whiplash. If the 22 hours of work a week is too much right now, is there any way to take a medical leave of absence? Or even decrease to 10 hours of work a week? I am 47 as well, so I know what you mean about not wanting to go on disability at this age. I would try to avoid that if I could.
