Guest guest
Hi , Sorry to answer you this late but I only just read your question. No its not exactly the same. Cornstarch I use in my own sauces, soups and vegetables. Fantomalt has almost got the same " energy " or " kcal " when I checked on the box though. Maerega's dietician told me about Fantomalt (i had never heard of it). On the box it says (and I hope my translation is understandable): " dietfood for medical use for everybody who is not capable to cover his or her energy needs with normal food " It also says: per 100gr Engergy: 1615kJ/380 kcal Protein: - g Carbohydrates (100% Energy): 95 g of which sugars: 6,2 g lactose: -g Fat: -g Food vezels (don't know transalation but I know that you got this in brown bread): -g So it is pure carbohydrates. I checked on my cornstarch box and it says: per 100 gr. Energy: 1510 kJ (350 kcal) Fat: 1.5g Protein: 1g Carbohydrates: 84g So yes I see what you mean. It both got almost the same energy level. I think the difference is that in cornstarch they put a few additives like Emulgator (E471, E331) and stabilisator(E450a) unlike Fantomalt. Also Fantomalt doesn't have any " Lactose " or " Gluten " in it. Don't know the translation in English sorry. Babies are not allowed to have " gluten " I think , but I am not sure about that one. Fantomalt is made by Nutricia in Holland but I am sure there is an alternative that is the same is this. It is for medical use and not only for children. Also used by older people for example who need more carbohydrates because they are losing weight. Hope this helps.
