Guest guest
Hi to all, Thanks so much to , Cheryl, Ken and for your response to my request for Periactin information. There is a specific reason that I am asking for this information, but I don't want to say at this moment (I will soon)- so if anyone else has/had there child on Periactin if you could take a minute and post their age, weight, dose, and brief weight gain history I would so appreciate it. If you want to send it to me directly instead of the listserv that would be just fine too! Thanks very much.
Guest guest
> Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2001 09:21:14 EDT > From: Lequiz@... Hi , I didn't respond sooner as my daughter has been off Periactin for over a year & a half, but I'll try to help if I can. Charissa was on the 2nd study program to see the effects of Periactin (Cyproheptadyne) on children in GHT over 11 years ago. She was put on Periactin for 6 months, during which time her growth velocity increased and her weight gain greatly increased. The next 6 months she was off Periactin; her growth velocity was half what it had been and she lost ALL the weight she had gained during the previous 6 months. Charissa was then put back on Periactin for over 10 years. She took 5cc (1 teaspoon) first thing in the a.m. and at lunch time. The dosage was increased to 7.5 cc (1.5 t.) twice a day after about 5 years. Her dosage was never upped according to her weight as it seemed to increase her appetite adequately even though she had " outgrown " the dosage according to the books. We just couldn't see upping the dose if the smaller dose was working! Its effect of increasing her appetite was noticeable within 1 hour, usually less, and lasted several hours. She never had any of the other side effects. The Periactin never seemed to loose effectiveness on her appetite, even though she took it for so long. And if she missed a dose it showed immediately - she didn't eat her next meal or snack nearly as well. We discontinued the Periactin as she has reached 5 ft. 2 in. and weighed 120 lbs. Within 6 months her weight dropped to 111 - 112 lbs, but it has stayed there for over a year now. I don't have the time to post the quarterly records I have on Charissa's age, weight & so on as she was on Periactin for nearly 11 years, but this info is in the RSS Survey results that Salem has compiled. Maybe you can get the info from there? I hope this helps - I'm interested in the reason you are collecting the info. Chris mom of Charissa (16 yrs., 5 ft 2.5 in., 111 lbs. still, graduate of Protropin and Periactin, GHD, ADD, ???, immature & late puberty, RSS(?), and (13 yrs., none of the above wife of Dave > Subject: 2nd Plea for Periactin Info > > Hi to all, > Thanks so much to , Cheryl, Ken and for your response to my > request for Periactin information. > There is a specific reason that I am asking for this information, but I > don't want to say at this moment (I will soon)- so if anyone else has/had > there child on Periactin if you could take a minute and post their age, > weight, dose, and brief weight gain history I would so appreciate it.
