Guest guest
Hi & all, I don't think it is a matter of giving up freedoms, it is a matter of learning to do things differntly and maybe using an assistive device. I know & understand the fight against the horrible wheelchair, but guess what it doesn't limit you, it may even set you free. I drug myself around on canadian crutches for 13 years, fighting using a wheelchair, finally in 1993 I was having so much trouble with my back and neck I decided to go to the chair. Let me tell you, I can do so much more from the chair than I could using the crutches, it is much easier to push a vacuum from a wheelchair than it is to try doing it with crutches. Shopping is a piece of cake with the chair, the mall isn't scary anymore, it is a fun place to go. Oh yea and work I couldn't work if it weren't for the wheelchair, I work full time 40 plus hours a week. Fatigue is much less using the chair I'm not dragging myself around on the canadian crutches. So I haven't and I don't think anyone has to give up freedom by going to a wheelchair, it's just a matter of learning new ways of doing things and being surprised by how much more you can do. Someone mentioned giving up driving, I'm not sure of all the reasons why you gave up driving and I have HSP not PLS but I have been driving with hand controls for more than 20 years. Yes they take a little getting used too, but I am free, I haven't given up any freedome, I drive my own car and go where I want when I want. I know we are all affected differntly with these diseases but just a thought about the hand controls. Best to you all and Happy Holidays Donna HSP Ca

I sure can vouch for that! She drove alone up to our CA TeamWalk from southern CA and she sure is one happy, energetic lady! I was super thrilled to meet her in person.
