Guest guest
Hi Mo...after 5+ years scd, I recently ( 4-5 weeks?) switched to full paleo --meaning NO beans ( which is a little heartbreaking, as I am exeptional at growing beans!! :-((( ... but this is the 1st time in 8-9 years --no more fibromyalgia!!!! Yay!!!!...this summer, I'm going to try my hand at fermenting beans & see if that works for me...but currently low-carb/paleo scd is the only thing that stops the pain! hth, gisele
Guest guest
Hi Gisele, Congrats on the success! I would love to try the full Palio/low carb SCD, where can I find it? When you say no beans, you mean dry beans? I don't eat those, but what else have you eliminated? I've had great success on SCD with all symptoms except the joint pain, although it's much less than before SCD. Can't wait to try it. Thanks. Guest guest
Gisele, I find this really interesting. I've been considering going full paleo myself. I've just been dreading it because I love my beans and cashews LOL. Several people on my microscopic colitis forum are on it and find it very helpful. I've already given up the dairy, so the only thing left is the beans, so it's not that much of a stretch. Actually, though, some say you should give up nightshades too. I find what you are saying really interesting because I tried some beans last week and now have developed stronger fibro type symptoms. I've never had enough to pass the test, but the symptoms were similar. Now my joints and muscles and bones ache. I feel so tired. I've also been leary of starting full paleo because I am thin already and also feel nausea and hunger from the reduced carbs as it is because there aren't many I tolerate. I'm finding that digestive enzymes seem to help some. I'm already eating good quality meats and fats. I cook with coconut oil and rendered pork fat. Are you still allowing green beans? Especially if they are young and no beans have formed? I'm also considering trying homemade green drinks for the fibro-like symptoms. I've read some have good results eating more alkaline. I have no idea if there is anything to this, but figure it won't hurt. That's kinda strange though, because I would think that paleo would be quite acid. Hmmmm.... interesting. I may have to make the jump and try the paleo. You can find quite a few SCD legal recipes or easily converted recipes on paleo blogs. Guest guest
Hi Shonda ...the immature green (snap) beans will be the 1st ones I retry later & I am going to try fermenting a bunch of them ...I would think they would be less reactive than the hard dried beans... I'm also a light weight --tho closer to "normal" now ( I avg'd ~100 lbs to 104 when I started scd and am now ~ 112 lbs to 115 ( at 5' 4") ...I do very much have to eat 5-6 times a day ( or more! lol) ... I try to keep a pot of soup or stew on the go constantly ...plus I have fish baked in my toaster oven at least once a day ...plus a have a large pasta pot ( that i've never used for pasta) that you can steam massive amounts of greens & veggies in ..so I basically eat the equivalent of ~ 3-4 full dinner plates of veggies ( steamed greens, brassicas, zucchini, squash ) plus 4-5 servings of protein ( ~4 ozs per serving) plus ~ 4 ozs cooked berries here & there through the day, plus 3-4 unsweetened muffins ...the nightshades I already know I do poorly with ...though I eat tomatoes & peppers ~ 2-3 times a month ( in guacamole, with pork rinds --yumm!) & already know if I have 2 servings --i'll pay a price lol..but I can have some!! veggies wise, brassicas are o.k. for me except cabbage ( i can't tolerate it!! :-( ..but I can tolerate the chines cabbages ( pak choy, bok choy etc!) & those are actually easier to grow! ..so far I have about a dozen different greens seeds to grow this year ( including dandelion!! , amaranth (the leaves, not the seeds!), chard, purslane, miners lettuce etc etc --- Mmmmm totally has me itchin for planting time!! ( there's still 2ft of snow on my garden lol!! ;-) be well, gisele
Guest guest
Thanks for the details. I have two varieties of broccoli and cabbage started but would love to grow the chinese cabbages. good to know if I don't tolerate one cabbage I may tolerate another. I think I'm ok with nightshades, but haven't done enough of an elimination diet to figure that out. I'm starting with the IgG allergies and working my way back from that. I've got several things started for the garden this year, too. I'm getting the gardening bug! I've seen a recipe floating around somewhere on an SCD recipes site for mock soy sauce using fermented beans. It probably is closer than the other attempts to duplicate the taste. Sorry to hear about your yeastie bug -- that sounds really rough. I sometimes wonder what really is growing in my gut. I've never tested to find out. I wasn't sure how accurate the tests were and if they were helpful.
