If you are going 3x a day, you don't need extra fiber " to clean you out " , your system is working just fine, if not overtime (there are different viewpoints) in that respect. 1-3 times a day is what is considered normal. > > I know that there's soluble and insoluble fiber and I'm sure I get > plenty of the one kind but was wondering if I get any of the other > kind? If I go that many times a day, do I still need more fiber??? No. Don't forget that everyone's system is unique. So just because you have diverticulitis, it doesn't mean you will respond the same way as others do. On this diet you will learn to become sensitive to your own symptoms and reactions and " prescribe " food and supplements for your particular, idiosyncratic symptoms. > > I hope someone can help me understand this. As the comment from Elaine posted the other day made clear - taking probiotics, whether as yogurt or in a capsule is very important to minimize inflammation in those pockets - because they are caused by pockets of bad bacteria and you want to start introducing good ones into your system. Guest guest
tonya, do a google search for fibre in vegetables and you will find plenty that are high in fibre and are legal on scd jena I have a question and hope I can word it just right :)Having been diagnosed with Diverticulitis on Dec. 7 last year, one of the things they (dr's) stress after an attack is lots of FIBER. They say you need bulk to clean out the " pouches " in our colon. And one thing they want you to eat is GRAINS, GRAINS AND MORE GRAINS!!! Well, I've rarely ever been constipated and go at least once a day and most of the time I go two and three times a day. It's not D, just regular. Sooooooo, I guess my question is...........how do you get that kind of fiber on this diet when there is no grains allowed? I know that there's soluble and insoluble fiber and I'm sure I get plenty of the one kind but was wondering if I get any of the other kind? If I go that many times a day, do I still need more fiber??? I hope someone can help me understand this. Maybe I'm thick headed!!! Also, I noticed that Miralax is legal. A friend recommended Konsyl the other day and I sent to the store for it (without going myself) and when I read on the label it looks to be illegal. What's the difference between Miralax, Konsyl, Metamucil, etc.????I think that's all I needed to ask. I just don't want to have another " attack " and it being because I didn't eat enough fiber. I have been sticking to the diet FAITHFULLY since 1-13-09 and ...........I feel really good. Looking forward to hearing from someone. Guest guest
Yes, I take probiotics. I didn't start that until I was about 3 weeks into the diet. I take one capsule of the scdophilus each day and also eat about 1 cup or a little more yogurt each day. Tonya
Guest guest
I forgot to ask. Do I need more than one capsule a day of the probiotics? Tonya

Although it CAN and does constipate me so start off with small doses. Metamucil: is a soluble fiber suppelments that is also supose to be a bulk laxative. Hope that helps >
