Tapering 6-mp

Hi, I'm about 10 months on SCD. Reading some of the recent posts

prompts me to ask if anyone can share their experience tapering off of

6-mp after being on SCD? That is the main reason I started the diet -

to get off 6-mp in particular (Am also on Asacol but am less concerned

taking that). Have been on 6-mp (75mg) for almost 10 yrs (since

resection). Have generally been in remission for that time. Since

starting SCD have felt less frequent and less severe 'aches' in my side.

Can anyone share 6-mp tapering experience/advice/comments?

Thanks. THis board is great.

What dosage are you on?

Myself, I was on one pill a day - forget the dosage level now -

and then just took myself off of it once I felt much better.

I didn't taper - and am not sure that is a problem.

I was on two pills a day when I originally started SCD, and

when I got violently bad die-off my first month with a high

fever, my doctor dropped me off the 6 mp dose because it is

an immuno suppressant and he wanted my immune system

working to help beat the virus symptoms.

Later on, he put me back on 1 pill. And I dropped that one

myself at some point.

THanks for the reply.

Am on 1.5 pills / 75mg per day and am afraid to stop taking it because

I feel good. Afraid to stay on it because over time I think it is

hard on the liver.

How widely prescribed is 6-mp for Crohn's? I do not have the

impression that my GI has many patients on it (he's my third doc,

after moving a couple times). I sure wish there were docs w/

experience w/ SCD...

Yes, would probably go to 1 pill per day first.

I guess I need to talk to the doc about it. THanks..
