is an excellent community for diabetes. A lot of people read there; there

are only a few active posters, but the ones who are there are very

knowledgeable. You'll need to register, but it's no biggie.

Can I come thump your husband over the head and ears? One thing you can

tell him -- and that is that anything with high fructose corn syrup

should be absolutely off-limits to any diabetic. (Well, anyone,

actually!) Damn stuff increases cravings, screws up blood glucose, and

increases your weight, no matter WHAT the HFCS pushers say!

Point out to him that diabetes is a disease of the carbohydrate

metabolism. Does it make sense, therefore, to eat what you can't

metabolize? The original Banting and Best diet for diabetics (they

discovered insulin) was proteins, fats, and very little carbs -- it was

bordering on ketogenic. (The endo I spoke with, who told me I had to get

off SCD and eat lots of complex carbs couldn't answer that question! And

I'm sure that if I'd followed his ideas, I, too, would be diabetic, in

addition to being miserable with IBS.)

SCD is a good diet for diabetics -- but you have to treat it as a sort-of

candida-SCD: low honey, reduced fruits and high carb vegetables.

Watch out for even the organic boxed broths: they often have sugar or

" raw cane juice " in them, which might be OK from your testing

standpoint, but might not be OK is you are reducing carbs for

Dh.

Look into pure tomato paste which can be turned into a variety of things.

Unico brand, from Canada, is probably the best one I've found, but it's

NOT recommended for beginners. Of course, you and aren't

beginners!

My niece and my sister have been OK with Trader Joe's mayo, if that's any

help. Again, NOT for beginners.

The folks in the diabetes forum I'm pointing you to are at least familiar

with SCD -- I talk about it all the time. <g>

a, Dot, Arlene, Marte, Conrad... all know about diabetes and can be a

HUGE help.

See you over at the Diabetes Forum....

Thank you, Marilyn. I told dh the had received a virtual thump over the head.

LOL I will check out the Diabetes Forum. And thanks for the tips about the

tomato paste and mayo. I will be careful with the chicken broth as I have seen

lots of yucky stuff in organic ingredient lists. :(
