Hi Kay,

My feet really didn't shrink either. I do feel slightly more comfortable in the shoes that I wear that is all. One thing that I did have to do is throw out a lot of my shoes because when I was heavy I tend to wear My shoes out faster and that can lead to back aches when I continued to use them after a while. I find that I walk differently know. I had on foot that went out slightly and now that I had lost weight they are straighter now with the help of a physical therapist.

Hi Shirley and all,

I've heard a lot of folks mention that they wear smaller shoes since

having surgery. Now, I'm starting to wonder . . . am I the only one

whose feet steadfastly refuse to shrink? They were an 8 WW before

surgery and still are. I was really hoping they might at least drop to

a single W.

Oh well . . .

Take care,

Kay

Well in this case, maybe it really is your bones. I have always had big feet (that got bigger when I was pregnant with my daughter) but for a big woman, they are really boney! I mean, almost no flesh at all. I'm lucky I guess in that they are long and not fleshy, but I don't anticipate much loss of shoe size after WLS. Hey, I've just fallen in love with the comfort--and believe it or not the beauty of many varieties--of Birkenstock so if my feet do change, I'll just have to adjust a few straps. I lost 100 pounds once many years ago and my feet did not change one bit--just got bigger when I got pregnant!

Hi Kay:

Well, my feet didn't actually shrink, however they are less wide...

well, so I guess they did... duh!

The strange thing, however, is that I had to get new shoes anyway

because the wear patterns for my shoes are so different as a lighter

person. And my shoes stay nicer longer.

After losing weight, I got out an old pair of tennis shoes from the

back of the closet, and they didn't even feel like a pair of shoes

I'd worn. The arch was different, and they were really uncomfortable

even though I remember them as being a comfortable pair of shoes.

So I ended up donating about 10 pairs of shoes to the Cancer Society

and Goodwill. At least I know that someone will get some use out of

them.
