Guest guest
Hi Bill: I am type II and my doctor has me coming in 4 times a year for checkups. I'm not sure but the frequency of such visits may depend to some degree on how much control the patient has of their blood sugars. Ken GreyEagle -- Dr. Visits, how many is to many? Guest guest
I don't see the dr at all. If I want a renewal of my drugs I check a form which lists them all, drop it into their mailbox on Sunday morning and then pick up the new prescription on Wendesday. My practice nurse (the old one) wants to see me every 6 months. We are getting a new practice nurse so I don't know if that will change or not. My follow-up to the dietican is this coming week. If it is the same one I will be hard pressed not to hit him. I also have the advantage of using Diabetes UK if I have a problem. They are pretty good answering any general questions. Guest guest
Carol, i rarely see my Dr too, and even better when i need my renewal i email the surgery and 2 days later pick up the prescription. If i was even lazier i could arrange for the local chemists to pick up the prescription for me and leave me with the arduous task of actually picking the damn drugs! If i was old[er] and [more]senile then i guess they would deliver them to my house as well! Simon freezing cold in icy England T2 Dx 1993 2g avadamet a1c 5.8 > I don't see the dr at all. Guest guest
HAHAH!!! I know how you feel!!! I refuse to go and see the dietician or the diabetes nurse ever again. My OB " advised " it, even after I told her how my blood sugar was, as well as that I know how to eat, and have been doing it for quite a while. My last a1c was 5.4 and my blood sugar after a meal is never over 120 (that's after pizza) I dont know why some people just dont understand that I am not an idiot because I have diabetes, and that I do know how to watch my blood sugar, as well as knowing what to do if it goes high, or low. I know how to eat, and what to eat, because I have tested and tested after eating foods... Angelia in OR ----- Original Message ----- From: " Carol " My follow-up to the dietican is this coming week. Guest guest
Here in the US (and from your email, the UK, too) we can choose not to see a doctor. I am glad we can do that. I see my endocrinologist about every 3 months, by choice. The reason: Diabetes has a lot of complications that I cannot detect in the early stages and are more readily treated early. For instance, about 15 or so years ago, my endocrinologist recommended a visit to the eye doctor. I went; even though my prescription had not changed, got my eyes looked at and found out I was in need of retinopathy treatment. The laser surgery was done on both eyes (different visits) and I now see that doctor about every 6 months to keep on top of it. I have had additional laser treatment when the eye doctor sees something that needs to be treated. Had I not been seeing my endocrinologist every 3 months, I would not have known their was a problem until I started to go blind. There are lots of blind diabetics. Because you stay on your diet, get good BG's and A1C's does not make you immune to diabetic complications. A lot of things can be happening that a doctor can often treat in the early stages, rather than when you notice something is wrong and the problem is well developed. I don't like going to the doctor anymore than other people, but doing so has had a big payoff. I have been a type I diabetic since 1964 and have seen a lot of improvements in the treatment of diabetes and its complications, but one can't take advantage of them if they are not aware there is a problem. Whether you see a doctor or not is your choice, but personally, I think it is as important as checking the air pressure of your car's tires or the oil levels. The body you have is going to be with you the whole time. If you do see a doctor; I hope everything is good. Regards Ted Re: Dr. Visits, how many is to many? I don't see the dr at all. Guest guest
Folks, you know what? Haven't you noticed that dieticians have no way of forcing people to follow their advice! Yours, Dora
Guest guest
In the U.S., that would depend on what health coverage you have. Yours, Dora
