RE: Looking for doctor in Toronto area with SCD experience

Hi Dave. I am also in Toronto. The doctor I consult about my chemical

sensitivities and ME/CFS (chronic fatigue/immune dysfunction) is Dr. K.

Kerr. She is slightly familiar with this diet because some of her patients

over the years have followed it. She encouraged me to start last year, and I

am very glad that I did. But she doesn't have information about legal or

illegal foods or supplements.

I wonder whether it would be worthwhile calling the Naturopathic College (on

Sheppard near ) to enquire whether students in their program are

taught anything about SCD; if so, perhaps they could recommend a naturopath,

or a student trainee who could help you (and maybe me as well).

I am planning to go to the Naturopathic College eventually, because they do

thorough testing at reasonable costs.

I chatted with Dr. Alison Bested at the annual meeting of the ME Association

of Ontario in September. She used to be my ME/CFS & MCS specialist, until I

stopped being able to drive all the way out to the eastern edge of

Scarborough, where her clinic is located. Dr. Bested noted my weight loss

(in my case, a good thing), and I told her that I had achieved it while

following the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Dr. Bested didn't recognize the

name, but she was familiar with Elaine's book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle,

and she mentioned that several of her patients follow that diet. I don't

know whether the naturopath at Dr. Bested's office, Dr. Tracey Beaulne, is

knowledgeable about this, but you might want to contact their clinic to find

out.

Information about Dr. Bested and Dr. Beaulne can be found at

If you receive any other leads on SCD specialists in Toronto, I would

appreciate the information.

What does one do for chemical sensitivities? I thought they go

away once the immune system gets stronger? I noticed a while back that shampoo

and conditioner gives me a wicked headache and backache.

Hi Dave,There are quite a few listed here,http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/friendly_docs/doclist2.htm#onTake care,Kim H.husband, , CD 1999, SCD 2002

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of a doctor or naturopath in the Toronto area who

has experience treating patients who are following SCD?

I had a naturopath who had suggested the diet, however when I went back to her for help it

was quite clear that she actually had little knowledge of the diet (she gave me supplements

which had several 'illegal' ingredients in them).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Dave

Dave
