Enbrel and other mainline meds...

O.K....I will put in my two cents here. There are numerous boards supported

by the medical community and even large pharmaceutical houses. Their rousing

support for the latest and often quite costly treatments are legendary.

There are few boards for those of us who want to follow an alternative path.

Though I would never fault someone for deciding to take one of these new

treatments, I feel this board needs to be primarily focused on AP. If it does

not work for you, why isn';t it. Does anyone have suggestions, comments, or

just plain support for someone who is not faring well. That sort of thing.

Also for those of us who were blown off by our docs and had to fight for

this treatment, not to mention pay for the whole thing, well I would just hate

to see this turn into another board for promoting what I feel to be treatments

that in my mind may benefit the doctors and drug companies in the long run.

Remember it was only a couple of years ago that we were all told we

(the women) needed to stay on hormones as a preventative against cancer and

heart disease. After 40 years of keeping women on these hormones an impartial

study had to be canceled after five years as women were dying of these

diseases at twice the numbers as those who were not on hormones. Do you really

think the drug companies did not know this was happening??? The financial

gaines

obviously over ruled their moral values. They spent millions marketing to

the docs who happily prescribed them to their patients never realizing that it

was very harmful. Do you think this could happen with other drugs,

especially for arthritic patients desperate for relief?? You betcha it can!!!

Do

you think the drug companies are going to tell the docs the actual numbers of

deaths and problems caused by many of these new drugs....not unless they get

caught they aren't.

Keep this board for those of us who need less problems with our

disease. I certainly don't want to control my RA and then later come down with

MS

as a result of the meds I was given. The minocin has been a lifesaver. Lets

keep discussing what we can do to optimize its abilities. Just my point of

view. Martha

Hi Martha! Geoff here.

What moral values?

:^)

a.. It certainly sounds like you have done everything you can to stay

well. Obviously you have been trying to tweek the AP to get it working like it

used to. Again the reason for this board...My doc uses Nizoral with

Minocin. Has your doc tried this?? All I know is it might be worth a shot.

One

only stays on it until the bloodwork goes back into normal range. If I begin

to have problems I will go back to my AP doc and try the combo again, maybe

even intravenous as I never did that either.

If that fails I will try MSM or maybe the diets. If that fails I may

look into chelation or other therapies that are generally not practiced by the

mainstream but might be worth a look see.

Again we all must do what we feel right for us. If you feel that Embrel is

good for you then go for it. You may be one who never has a bit of problems.

I am not saying I would never go on any of these newer drugs, but I will

do everything I can to avoid them for as long as possible. Anyone else got

any suggestions for a??

Best of luck in whatever you go with. Martha

Martha, you are so nice to take the time to try to help a. Of course, that

is what this " board " is all about, isn't it? All of us helping one another.

But, at any rate, you are very generous and big-hearted. Patti, by the way, is

really in bad shape. We probably should get back to Dr. Sentef for some more

I.V.'s. Your suggestion to a reminded me of this!
