Anytime one does not know what something is, you can always, always Google the word but here is the def:Betaine hydrochloride, derived from beets, increases stomach acid to

enhance digestion. This is especially important for older persons,

particularly those over 60, who may not produce enough stomach acid to

properly digest food and nutrients. HCL makes the stomach produce more

acid and also stimulates the secretion of pancreatic enzymes, further aiding digestion. Not

only does insufficient stomach acid interfere with digestion, a low

level of stomach acid can increase the potential and severity of

certain bacterial and parasitic intestinal infections. The low pH

created by HCL destroys microorganisms that enter the gastrointestinal

tract.Nutritionally-oriented doctors note that persons with

chronic health problems such as gallstones, allergies, and asthma,

often do not produce enough stomach acid.

What is betaine HCL? (I'm a newbie to some of this)

I have been on scd for 4 years, but could not handle nuts until now.I am taking betaine HCL with my meals and it is digesting my food.So for anyone out there, take your digestive enzyme whatever it might be. It does work.
