Hi ,

Congratulations on your approval. Unfortunately the time frame is about right 10 to 12 weeks. The amount of people that are wanting the surgery is enormous. They receive now over 300 referrals a month. Back in June of 2002 when I received my letter of approval I didn't go to orientation until September. Wait a couple of weeks more and check back with SSF to see if you have been scheduled for orientation. If you have online access to Kaiser you can also check there for appointments. They do show up there also. Good luck

Hi there,

First thing I can say is--take a deep breath and relax. Yes that seems like a long time but apparently SSF is INCREDIBLY busy. Like you, I was going out of my mind waiting for the scheduled appointments. First of all, you can go online and check your appointments as they show up way before the appointment cards. So, like a fool, I checked every darn day and was ripping my hair out when the website was down for 10 days! Anyway, it took about five weeks before my appointments showed up. I was approved on March 24th and just had my orientation on June 15th. I called Marina once and she said not to worry, they are just incredibly busy and there are no slots open. That is the real problem; there are just not enough open appointment spaces. There are LOTS of us wanting this surgery. I don't think there is any way to expedite the process, but you can use the time getting ready. I know that sounds lame, but this is really

an exercise in patience. It will happen. Congratulations on getting approved.

Hello everyone, been awhile since I've posted, new job keeping me REAL busy. I was recently approved for the surgery and will have the procedure at the SSF Facility. The letter I have states that my appointment for orientation should sceduled within the next 10-12 weeks? Now, I got this letter over a month ago, and I've yet to hear from anyone about my pending appointments, this seem a bit outrageous to me. I mean, 10-12 weeks to book me into the orientation? Can anyone out there offer advice on how I can expedite this process? I started the ball rolling on my surgery back in December, and the jumping through hoops has been a real ride. Would love a smooth ride at some point.Your advise is very welcome.

I know very well that 10 weeks seems like forever! The waiting

seemed to drag on forever for me. I got my approval letter in late

October 2002, and my orientation (in Richmond) didn't happen until

April 2003. To help you pass the time, start going to every support

group that you can.

Like others have said, there are so many who are flooding into the

program. Try to look on the bright side and really enjoy having that

approval! That's a real big hurdle. Be happy that you're on your

way. Post often here and vent when you get impatient (that helped me

too...). Also, take this time to educate yourself as much as

possible. Identify your challenges (food issues, emotional issues)

and get help with that NOW.

Every little step you make to help yourself will better equip you to

make this process successful for yourself. Best of luck to you.

Hi ,

I don't have any advice - but I do want to say "Congratulations" on getting

approved. I know that it seems to take forever . . . and, with so many people

applying these days, it may be even slower than it was before. That's the

bad news - but the good news is that you are definitely on your way.

Keep checking with Kaiser on-line, since that seems to be the first place

that your appointment will show up. If the worst happens and the appointment

doesn't show up within the allotted time, then call and become the "squeaky

wheel."

All the best,
